Pamela Geller Continues to Spread Her Warped View of Islam

Conservative blogger Pamela Geller made headlines back in June for battling (and ultimately beating) PayPal after being informed that her blog’s content possibly violated their acceptable use policy. An early critic of the Ground Zero Mosque, Geller has faced extensive accusations that she is anti-Muslim.

As an opinionated woman myself (and a firm believer in freedom of speech), my take on Pamela Geller was kind of a “I might not agree with you, but you’re entitled to your opinion” thing. While I still strongly believe that Geller has the right to post whatever the hell she wants on her blog Atlas Shrugs, I am deeply disturbed by how she’s been stepping up the anti-Muslim vitriol of late.

Conversations about religion almost inevitably spark strong feelings, and that is truly not my intent here. In my utopian society, everyone has a relationship with the God of his or her choice, be it Allah or Buddha or Zeus or Jesus Christ, without feeling the need to slam on the deity someone else worships. Spirituality is an amazing thing, and my feeling is that respecting that in others with an open mind is vital.

Make no mistake, there are extremists in any religion that cause certain stereotypes and ugliness and media spin, and the idea that this all happens in the name of God frankly makes my stomach hurt.

Which leads me back to Pamela Geller and her recent post entitled “Islamic Antisemitism 101: The Daisy Khan Con,” where she attempts to rip Executive Director of the American Society for Muslim Advancement (ASMA) Daisy Khan (and the religion of Islam) a new one.

From Atlas Shrugs:

Khan & Co. know this is not about hate. Accusations of hatred are a cheap shot, and a desperate shot aimed at stopping substantive discussions. But we won’t stop asking questions and demanding answers.

President Obama and the So-Called Ground Zero Mosque

Sometimes a person can’t win no matter what he or she does. Speaking out publicly on an issue? You’re butting your nose in where it doesn’t belong. Remaining silent so your name is kept out of it? You are silently consenting to a twisted truth set forth by your political opponents.

Civil rights activists did it. Feminists did it. And now, the President of the United States has done it … and being “hen-pecked” extensively for it.

Barack Obama, who a frightening percentage of Americans believe is Muslim despite significant proof to the contrary, found himself between the proverbial rock and hard place recently with regard to the “Ground Zero Mosque.”

From AOL News:

Speaking to Muslims observing the holy month of Ramadan at the White House on Friday, Obama asserted that Muslims have the right to build the planned mosque, citing freedom of religion as a core American value.

Yup, freedom of religion. That goes back to the very same U.S. Constitution that the Tea Partiers pontificate on again and again and again … as it suits their political agenda, of course. That President Obama made the same point, and in a far more legitimate and real life situation then much of the right-wing spinmesiters, must have the Tea Party grinding its collective teeth.

Look at the mess Sarah Palin made of the so-called Ground Zero Mosque. It’s simply disgusting.

Perhaps even more disgusting, though, is the implication that Obama is perpetuating Islamic terrorism through his support of a house of worship.

Susan Sarandon, Ping Pong Balls, and the Cougar Double Standard

Not to be outdone by Thelma and Louise co-star Geena Davis, Susan Sarandon is making headlines this week. Rumor has it that she’s a cougar on the prowl … and her prey is a 31-year-old ping pong player. Although Sarandon’s publicist claims that her relationship with Jonathan Bricklin is strictly business, the gossip is flying.

The first question, naturally, is what kind of “business” a 63-year-old movie star has with a “ping pong aficionado.” I mean, is she researching a role? Seriously, what other reason would there be for playing with balls of with a young guy?

Joking aside, People reported in April that Sarandon is indeed business partners in a ping-pong club with Bricklin.

Sarandon and Bricklin, who are co-investors in SPiN, the New York City ping-pong bar, have denied rumors that they’re an item. Sarandon split from her longtime partner Tim Robbins in December and tells Entertainment Weekly that while …
