Romney Taking Vaginas Into Consideration Regarding Running Mate

Word Search of Potential Romney VP Candidates
The names being tossed around as possibilities for Mitt Romney’s running mate are many and varied.

Actually, they’re really not … everyone under consideration holds pretty hard-core right wing views, which shouldn’t be much of a surprise considering that Romney himself has a past history of being fairly liberal on social issues, and the Republican machine obviously wants to keep that under the radar.

But what does Romney’s potential veep have to do with feminism?

There is this impression, see, that Romney needs to strongly consider a female running mate because he is woefully behind Barack Obama in the vagina-sporting demographic (unlike the House floor, we at Zelda Lily are very comfortable with the word “vagina”).  In other words, if they want to pump up Romney’s support among women, let’s get a woman up there with him.

Because, you know, that worked out so well for John McCain last election

Anyway, The Fiscal Times created a list of fourteen potential running mates for Romney, and three of those names are women: Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-New Hampshire), former Secretary of State …

Another Carjacking? Olympian Jenny Thompson Attacked on Motor Scooter

Photo of Carjacking in Progress
Random violent acts against women continue to happen every day.  Whether it’s purse snatchings, harassment and catcalls, or even more dire situations, an undercurrent of violence continues to exist in today’s society.  Perhaps one of the most common situations where this type of violence occurs is the carjacking.

Take, for example, the recent experience of Olympic swimming star Jenny Thompson, who was attacked while riding her motor scooter Monday night.  Thompson suffered cuts and scrapes but is otherwise okay after the attack in Brookline, Massachusetts.

From Foster’s Daily Democrat:

Eight-time Olympic gold medalist swimmer Jenny Thompson says would-be robbers punched her in the face in a failed bid to steal her scooter outside Boston.

The Dover, N.H., native told WBZ-TV on Wednesday that she was riding in Brookline on Monday night when a vehicle stopped behind her with its headlights out. She says two people got out, punched her, pushed her down and tried to grab her ride.

Thompson held onto the scooter and screamed for help, forcing the assailants to flee. The 37-year-old suffered a cut on her nose and several scrapes and was treated at the scene.

Police say three teenagers were arrested.

This is scary.  Like, ridiculously scary.  Here’s a woman on her way home from her residency at Brigham and Women’s, and she gets attacked …

Nikki Haley Wins Republican Runoff, Poised to be South Carolina’s Next Governor

Nikki Haley won the Republican gubernatorial nomination in South Carolina on Tuesday in a runoff election with Congressman Gresham Barrett.  South Carolinians will choose between Haley and Democrat Vincent Sheehan on election day, and Haley is the hands down favorite to win.  Haley overcame challenges including cheating allegations, an increasingly common charge in this day and age, and ethnic slurs.

From the New York Times:

Ms. Haley, 38, rose in the polls by promising to break an entrenched network that has dominated state politics for decades. She portrayed the unsubstantiated charges of sexual affairs as retaliation for taking on special interests.

In the general election, Ms. Haley faces the Democratic nominee, Vincent Sheheen, who won his primary on June 8. Republican candidates in South Carolina hold a considerable advantage in the general election, and even Democratic leaders in the state concede that something unforeseen would have to unfold for Ms. Haley not to win in November.

The two are competing to succeed Gov. Mark Sanford, a Republican, who confessed to having an extramarital affair with an Argentine woman last year and is barred by term limits from seeking re-election.

Haley, “a first generation American of Indian descent,” has been increasingly popular in the national news.  Her meteoric rise can be attributed to many factors, not the least of which is an endorsement from Sarah Palin.
