Teacher in Trouble Over “That’s What She Said” Test

T-shirt with "That's What She Said"

All right, this is very hard to believe … in fact, my very bosom is trembling.  The intercourse between what is acceptable and what’s inappropriate has gone down on a slippery slope.  I’m going to slip you something that will blow your mind … you’re going to have your socks rocked, baby.

From Fox News:

Frank Rozanski of William T. Dwyer High School in Palm Beach Gardens was teaching a lesson on social psychology and perceptions. The questions each had a non-sexual answer but …

The Historical Lessons of Rosie the Riveter

Photo of Women Working in a Factory During World War II

I started reading when I was a toddler, and it has long been both escapism and passion to me.  However, whereas I used to devour fiction, my love for the written word has expanded in the past year to include historical works of non-fiction.  If you think of the books in the world as existing in a candy store, you could say that I’d been enjoying one floor my entire life, blissfully unaware that thousands of equally delightful options existed.

One of the most important things I’ve learned is how little I really know, and this is as true of some of the historical bases for feminism as it is anything else.

I’d heard of Rosie the Riveter, of course, and had read a fair amount of feminist literature (from Mary Wollstonecraft to Andrea Dworkin) in college, but the “touched upon” nature that one receives in a survey class is completely different than diving …

St. Ismeria: Jesus’ Great-Gram or Just Another Morality Lesson for Women?

Painting of Jesus, Mary, and a Bevy of Women

So let’s talk about Jesus Christ, shall we?  Or, more specifically, let’s talk about his great-grandmother.  Maybe.

According to Ireland’s University of Limerick historian Catherine Lawless, manuscripts dating back to 14th-15th century Italy tell the tale of Ismeria, a reported miracle-worker in her own right and quite possibly the great-grandmother of Christ.

Cool.

There’s Now a Law Saying That Teachers Cannot Be Sexually Involved With Students

Photo of Sexy Teacher Watching Student Write on Chalkboard

As a teacher, I get annoyed at my students for misbehaving in ways that are clearly against the rules, particularly when they start with the excuses about the rule not being explicitly stated.  “You never said we couldn’t draw mustaches on our upper lips with Sharpies to get high off the fumes.”  “You never said that we couldn’t have a food fight.”  “You never said that we couldn’t scratch our initials into the table.”  Yeah, those are all things that should go without saying, right?  I mean, someone should have taught kids somewhere along the line about basic, decent, solid, good behavior.

And it turns out that some teachers evidently need a similar lesson, forcing the actual creation of a law in Washington State …
