Men in Spain have voiced the injustice over the very idea that Spanish women are given breastfeeding leave and they are not. Read: When will they find the time during their work week to enjoy a nice frothy beer while watching a suspenseful game of soccer?
The European Union Court of Justice has opened their motherly arms to these men and has granted working fathers breastfeeding leave. Under the ruling they will be granted two breastfeeding breaks per day, a total of one hour or the option of shaving off a half hour from their workday. The leave applies to the first nine months of their child’s life. The European Court of Justice stated that the previous law was “unjustified discrimination on the grounds of sex.” Let’s hope that the union is as graceful to …
Women are given a biological means of working their way into motherhood; a growing baby inside one’s body makes the transition from woman into mother a physical matter, one which is difficult not to come to terms with. However, for men, this transition isn’t as easy as a physical reaction to the coming change in their lives. Men live along a moving belly, a growing partner, and a few black and white blurry pictures of their future child. This is their means of coming to grasp with the reality that they are soon expected to change into someone else — they will soon be a responsible for the life of another, and how they view themselves is expected to change.

We’ve all heard the archaic notion of a woman’s place being in the kitchen. A main part of a woman’s duty was based out of that room where the cooking and much of the daily cleaning transpired. An interesting train of thought is how far kitchens have come over the years—whether or not they are still primarily a woman’s domain and also whether or not “modern” kitchens have appropriate adaptations that have made kitchen drudgery easier.
An 80-year-old kitchen from Frankfurt, Germany is currently on display (under the compelling name “The Frankfurt Kitchen”) in New York City, allowing Museum of Modern Art-goers to explore as part of the “Counter Space: Design and the Modern Kitchen” exhibit.
