The perpetrator, Dean Carter, was a real gem. Strangling Janette Cullins and sticking her body into a closet in her San Diego home, was not his first crime. In fact, he’d killed three women just the day before in L.A. and had a history of raping women who didn’t exactly think he was Rico Suave. Sick.

Lara Logan, a news correspondent for CBS, was beaten savagely and sexually assaulted while covering the recent chaos in Egypt. Basically, Logan was separated from her camera crew and security staff in the near-mob conditions at Tahrir Square following the resignation of Hosni Mubarak and was brutalized in plain sight among rioters before being assisted by Egyptian soldiers and a group of women.
Wow. This is a terrible, terrible story on hundreds of different levels.
Perhaps the most disturbing repercussion, though, involves the petty, mean-spirited, and completely inappropriate internet battles that are turning both a nation’s upheaval and a woman’s private pain into immature, insensitive interwebs spats.

Education is vital to the solid upbringing of a child. Whether parents choose to homeschool their children, foot the bill for a private or parochial school, or go with the public school available in their area of residency, it’s incredibly important that they value education.
Sadly, a lot of parents don’t … and sometimes those that do find themselves between the proverbial rock and hard place, as is the case with Ohio’s Kelly Williams-Bolar, a single mom recently sentenced to 10 days in jail for lying about her residency so her daughters could attend a well-regarded school instead of where they should have been going based on their living situation in public housing.
