Despite my lack of interest in the Greek system during college, I love the television show Greek. Forget Secret Life of the American Teenager, or Pretty Little Liars; Greek is my young people show of choice. It features “great love”, actually covers real issues, and does it all while making fun of itself. The final chapter of the show is currently airing (unfortunately; I guess we all have to grow up and move on at some point), and that may be why the show’s creators are taking some more obvious risks. I watched MTV’s 16 and Pregnant: No Easy Decision on Tuesday night, which, if you can’t tell from the title, is the first of the series to explore abortion, though past episodes of the series have shown couples both keeping their baby or putting a child up for adoption. We’re reintroduced to Markai and James, who found out they were pregnant again a few months after filming their episode of 16 and Pregnant where they found out they were pregnant with their daughter Za’karia. Since we left them, they finished high school, Markai was saving money for college next semester, James got a job, and they got their own house. By any accounts, they were doing well. How did they get pregnant again? Markai was on Depo-Provera, and she missed an appointment for her shot, and didn’t use a condom as backup, explaining later that she just assumed some of the birth control was still in her system. In a scene that seems relatively staged, Markai says, “I feel like it’s my fault that I’m pregnant now,” to …

Jezebel Raising College Funds For Teen Mom Stars, Setting a Dangerous Precedent

So I guess that Jezebel is impressed with Catelynn and Tyler from Teen Mom. Really impressed. Like, impressed to the point where the site is collecting donations for a college fund for the couple.

From Jezebel:

For the next two weeks, we will be accepting donations via PayPal; these contributions will go to a private account and then be given to Catelynn and Tyler. Obviously we can’t guarantee that they’ll use the cash to pay for college, but they’ve demonstrated their strong decision-making skills in the past, and we trust that they’ll put the money to good use.

Readers are then encouraged to either click on a donation button or use PayPal to donate money to send these two kids—who are becoming bigger celebrities by the day, it seems—to college. Catelynn wants to be an ultrasound technician while Tyler’s aspiration is to be a children’s counselor.

Jamie Lynn Spears a Poster Child for Teen Pregnancy?

Many celebrities have taken their own struggles with issues ranging from drug abuse (Betty Ford) to domestic violence (Eminem) and used them as an avenue to bring social problems into the forefront.

Teenage pregnancy is a very real concern, and it’s a dicey subject for a celeb to focus on. I get the feeling that Bristol Palin would dearly love to be the “spokesceleb” on this subject judging by her work for the Candie’s Foundation, her role on The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and statements she’s made to the media.

However, there’s actually a more legit celebrity who has shown true class in this very complex situation, keeping a low profile as she’s raised her daughter in a small southern town without glamorizing her situation. Instead, she has shown grace under pressure as she walked away from a blossoming career and made the child she gave birth to when she could have been out partying—or cashing in on her celebucause—her true focus.

Jamie Lynn Spears is walking the walk, not just talking the talk.
