Poll Shows That Sarah Palin Doesn’t Represent Jane Q. Public

Oh, Sarah Palin, how I miss you.  I don’t know if you’ve stopped saying stupid things or hired better PR peeps or what, but it seems like the tides have turned against you nevertheless.  You’re hardly ever in the news for insulting American Muslims or taking it personally when college kids try to stand up to Big Brother anymore; nope, most of the latest buzz with your name in it was related to Bristol’s appearance on Dancing With the Stars.

Yup, if new data from Hart Research Associates has any veracity, it appears that most women (74%, in fact) view Palin as untrustworthy on women’s health issues.  As a point of reference, 54% view Planned Parenthood as trustworthy in terms of women’s health.

In the name of full disclosure, Hart’s survey was sponsored by Planned Parenthood.  However, survey subjects included an equitable number of registered Republicans and Democrats making …

Nancy Pelosi’s Political Future Up in the Air?

Photo of Nancy Pelosi in Front of an American Flag

I hate political ads. The exaggerations, half-truths, and skewed use of data intended to convince the ignorant just really piss me off—and this is true on both sides of the political spectrum. I was watching the news with my mother a couple of weeks ago, and we noticed an interesting trend—lumping the Democratic candidate in with Nancy Pelosi.

Yeah, it’s true, Nancy Pelosi has evidently become the anti-Christ, at least if the political advertisements of New Hampshire were any indication. It got down to pretty low levels, too—“She’s running for the state house of representatives and has never even met Nancy Pelosi … BUT SHE AGREES WITH HER AND IS JUST LIKE HER SO DON’T VOTE FOR HER!”

My mother and I had kind of an interesting conversation about just what Nancy Pelosi’s done that’s so bad and came up with a list no more or less glaring than any other politician’s. The fact remains, though, that Pelosi was unquestionably the whipping girl in the recent elections—so what does this mean for her political future?

New Report Puts Feminists Between a Rock and a Hard Place Regarding Christine O’Donnell

Photo of Political Women in Front of "Women Making History" Banner
A recent study by the Women’s Media Center, the WCF Foundation, and the Political Parity initiative showed that attacking a female political candidate based on sexist language results in a huge nosedive in the candidate’s approval ratings. You know, I’m actually really surprised by the fact that accusations such as “mean girl,” “ice queen,” and even “prostitute” evidently led to a 20% drop.

And if the Women’s Campaign Forum’s Siobhan Bennett has any credence, this means that all women with a drop of feminist blood should be supporting any female candidate at any cost … and this includes Christine O’Donnell, the surprise GOP Tea Party Senatorial candidate from Delaware.

Should We Focus on the “Approval Ratings” of First Ladies?

First Lady Michelle Obama, once considered quite an asset to her husband both on the campaign trail and in the White House, has taken some heat of late. And no, it’s not for allegedly hen-pecking her husband this time.

What is happening, however, is that her approval ratings are falling.  Plummeting, in fact.  Now, you might be wondering why anyone should give a rat’s ass about the approval ratings of a First Lady.

Historically, in fact, a First Lady’s primary job was eye candy.  Now, though, a woman married to the president is held up to a whole new level of scrutiny that is monitored relentlessly through polls.  Sometimes I wonder if Michelle Obama has any regrets …

Anyway, Mrs. Obama’s approval ratings have taken a serious hit in the last few months (according to the most recent Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll, only half of those surveyed have a favorable outlook on Michelle O.), and the apparent reason is kind of unfair.

From Townhall.com:

The survey was taken from Aug. 5 to Aug. 9, which happened to coincide with Mrs. Obama’s vacation in Spain, where she, along with daughter Sasha and several friends, stayed in a posh five-star resort. It was a luxurious getaway for the first lady of a nation with nearly 10 percent unemployment and widespread economic anxiety, and it fed an image of extravagance that Mrs. Obama has created by, among other things, patronizing chichi restaurants and wearing $775 boots to break ground at her White House garden. A new name — “Michelle Antoinette” — was born.
