Montana Fishburne Believes Porn is the Best Gateway to Stardom

Montana Fishburne, the 19-year-old daughter of actor Laurence Fishburne, is set to release her debut sex tape on August 18th. But Montana isn’t pretending that this tape was leaked without her knowledge or permission. Instead, the budding actress argues that she believes the sex tape is one of the best ways to quickly rise to fame for today’s young female stars.

As Mary Elizabeth Williams at Salon puts it:

The younger Fishburne’s foray into adult entertainment might be viewed as a depressing confirmation of what many of us have long suspected – that some of those shocking sex tapes those D-list celebrities didn’t want you to see are in fact carefully contrived publicity stunts.

Fishburne makes no such claim. Instead, she readily cites Kim Kardashian as a major inspiration, saying:

I’ve watched how successful Kim Kardashian became and I think a lot of it was due to the release of her sex tape by Vivid. I’m hoping the same magic will work for me. I’m impatient about getting well-known and having more opportunities and this seemed like a great way to get started on it.”

High School Graduations: Pomp and Circumstance for Selena Gomez

Disney Channel sensation Selena Gomez is a high school graduate—and a positive role model for multitudes of tween and teen girls.

From People:

“Today I graduated from high school and got my diploma!!!!!” Gomez, 17, announced on her Facebook page Monday night.

But that wasn’t the only graduation the Wizards of Waverly Place actress celebrated.

“What are the odds: I also filmed my graduation ceremony in the upcoming movie Monte Carlo,” she wrote. “So in a weird way I was able to experience an official graduation, LOL.”

Yup, Gomez graduated twice in a short time period. Even better, she’s stoked enough to sound like a giddy seventeen-year-old on Facebook. I find this very refreshing. However, it does raise an excellent point—how many celebrities have not managed to pull off this accomplishment?

Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, and Alyssa Milano are high school dropouts. Okay, it was fairly obvious that the three, who all left school to pursue performing careers, were headed for big time success, but still. Paris Hilton, Angelina Jolie, Lindsay Lohan, Jamie Lynn Spears, Alicia Silverstone, and Jessica Simpson also left school early, but did make earning their GED a priority. It’s kind of sad when Lindsay Lohan comes out on top of, say, Alyssa Milano on something, but you’ve kind of got to give the girl some credit on this one.

Some people feel that graduating from high school doesn’t really mean anything, that if you’re able to be happy and healthy and financially solvent, what difference does a high school diploma make? I totally disagree with that. A diploma is a benchmark, an emblem of a universal struggle faced by all American teenagers. I know a fair number of high school dropouts and, to a person, they all say they would have stuck with it if given the chance to do it over again.

A high school diploma doesn’t say anything about how smart a person is. It does, however, speak to strength of character, a willingness to meet a challenge, and perhaps most importantly in this day and age the feeling of accomplishment at finishing what you’ve started.

So congratulations, Selena Gomez. Congratulations on your upward-moving career. Congratulations on your high school diploma(s). And congratulations on living an experience that your fans can relate to. As a mother and as a high school teacher, I very much appreciate it.

Paris Hilton Thinks Blow Jobs Are For Ugly Girls

paris_is_a_liar

I already wrote about this over on Evil Beet, but I feel the need to address it on here, too, from a slightly different angle.

Paris Hilton made a guest appearance on Kathy Griffin’s My Life on the D-List last night, and, with absolutely no prompting, made the following statement about blow jobs: “I never do that. My mom always taught me, ‘Only ugly girls need to go down on their knees and do things like that.’”

This is upsetting for a lot of reasons. First, because Paris Hilton has been videotaped giving a blow job. That video tape was sold to Red Light video and distributed via the Internet and in adult stores around the world. We have all seen Paris Hilton suck a cock.

Second, because it gives her younger and more impressionable fans the idea that performing oral sex on a man is somehow a sign of decreased value and/or low moral character. It is so frustrating to see perpetuated the idea that a woman’s choice to perform a certain sexual act is always an act of desperation or an indicator that a man has diminished respect for her. I am not saying that all blow jobs are acts of saintly goodness (although some men may disagree with me on that point), but I hate the idea of a young woman being convinced that she’s somehow a less worthy person because she chose to perform oral sex. Because as much as someone like myself recognizes that Paris Hilton is a fucking lying, narcissistic moron, you better believe that plenty of young women in this country view her opinion as Bible. (I know this as a result of reading the comments on my celebrity gossip blog for three years.) I have this image of young women across America watching her on this show and thinking to themselves, “Oh my God. I give head. Am I ugly? Am I worthless? Paris Hilton thinks so. What have I done?” I know I don’t carry the kind of clout that Paris does, but allow me to address that question: You have done nothing wrong, and you have done nothing that makes you less deserving of respect.

Thirdly, I am infuriated with the idea that mothers are passing this kind of bullshit advice on to their daughters. These are the kind of statements we pass on to our daughters that strip women of sexual power and confidence. I would tell my daughter — if it came up — that she should perform the sexual acts she chooses when, and only when, she wants to. If she’s uncomfortable with something, she should pass, and she should expect a man to respect her decision. If she wants to do it, she should enjoy herself thoroughly. No one should make her feel somehow lesser because she wants to give head.

In summary: Shut up, Paris.
