It is my understanding that anatomical sexism has been vital to just about every major religion that has thrived for more than a few generations. Religions older than a few hundred years have always embodied powerful tools for passing belief and tradition to the next generation, and controlling the reproductive process is at the core of those tools. As the reproductive process is always reliant on anatomy, I can understand why a religion would want to focus on anatomy instead of gender.

Mark, I completely agree. Honestly, I *do* believe that the contemporary Pagan community is the most accepting of the religions. This is not standard for Pagans. But that there are individual women's groups within some Pagan gatherings who hold these kinds of prejudices is very unnerving to me.

To be honest I was under the impression that pagans were the most understanding of the religions. I was classed as a "neo-pagan" but I still say I just don't fit in to any religion. Anyway, I do think that as well as transgender women, it's possible for men even to celebrate the female spirit. I think that for true equality, we should actually strive to be equal, and decide not to include someone based on their physical anatomy. But I have a trans friend, so I'm probably a bit biased.
