Madonna has stirred up controversy with almost every tour she’s ever done, so why would it be shocking that in the year 2012 she’s still doing it? It’s not shocking, and it’s not cutting edge—it’s ridiculous. I don’t know why Madonna is still a news story. The 53 year-old mother of three recently made headlines when Dmitry Rogozin, a Russian deputy premier, called her a whore—sort of, technically he called her a “w,” which is apparently Scarlet Letter-speak for ‘whore’.
This happened because Madonna discussed her support of a few Russian punk rockers currently in prison awaiting their verdict (a band called ‘Pussy Riot’). So Rogozin tweeted, “Every former w. wants to give lectures on morality when she grows old. Especially during foreign tours.” He then added, “Either take off your cross or put on your knickers.”
As for me, I can’t believe I have to discuss a tweet war and Madonna … what is the world coming to? Anyway, I don’t get it. Rogozin is right. Madonna was a whore. Straight up whore. She was proud of it, she owned it and I’m not judging her for it, but the woman was loose. Guys, she put out a sex book … and have you seen that book? It is not “art” or “beautiful nudes”; it’s hardcore, fetish, gang bang-like porn. Kind of trampy, I must say, and maybe not necessarily in the way I like, either.
So, what’s the problem? Am I going to get a bunch of comments because I called a spade a spade? Probably not, but Rogozin did. Twitter flooded him messages defending Madonna. Why? Does anyone think Madonna needs someone to fight her battles for her? It’s been 30 years since Madonna came on the scene and she’s heard it all, been called it all, and done it all, so I highly doubt she needs a bunch of Tweeting twits defending her honor. Which brings my point full-circle … Madonna is not honorable, se’s commendable. What she’s managed to do in her career and in this industry is amazing, but she did it by pushing sexual boundaries. She did it by making …
… people uncomfortable. And that’s why Madonna and her sub-par music are where they are today, because God knows there’s no musical genius there.
She’s also a 53 year old mother and you know what? Maybe it is time to cover it on up. That was my thought during her Super Bowl performance. Madonna looks great for her age (thank you plastic surgery and photoshop) but I don’t need to see her dressed as a cheerleader. I don’t need to see her with Nikki Minaj and LMFAO, because frankly, you’re not relevant anymore, Madonna.
I agree with Rogozin: take off your cross or put your knickers on. You can’t have it both ways. You can’t be a sinner and a saint, you can’t be a Madonna and a whore, you can’t be a mother and best friend, and you can’t be a porn star and a role model. It was cool when I was younger, Madonna was so wild and crazy, but I’ve grown up and it’s not cool anymore. The younger generation isn’t looking to Madonna to get their “edgy pop star”—they’re looking to Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, and Katy Perry.
The time has passed, Madonna. No one cares that you show your butt on stage, or who you think should be in jail; we care that your 15-year-old daughter already has a smoking habit. So I think Rogozin has a point, Madonna doesn’t have a high horse to ride on, because I can’t name a single thing she fought and went to jail for (other than masturbating on stage …what a role model). I think it’s time to hang up the pointed bra, hand the reigns over. We were crazy for you, but you pushed our love over the borderline. You’ve expressed yourself and taught us how to vogue but it’s time to take a bow. You were our material girl, but like a virgin, we can’t go back. We’re going to be true blue to lose you, but we’ll always live to tell about the time when you were our lucky star.
Well I do agree with the Russian guy, and you, on everything you say about Madonna, but I am going to say “well done” to her on getting the word out about the injustice that is Pussy Riot being convicted. Regardless of why she did it, it’s good people are getting it out there. But yes she needs to hang it up, and be a parent. I don’t think anyone needs to see her get her ass out, or dress like a skank, and if they do, then they can look at the old pictures of her.
I am still amazed that there are some people out there who still think that “slut” and “whore” are insults.
They just aren’t.
That big slut, good for her.
