We’ve all been there. Getting, ahem, down to business – only to have to endure those awkward few seconds when you other half fumbles with your bra hooks. Clearly those little things are trickier than they look…
But now a French label has launched a new range of women’s lingerie, that fastens with magnets rather than the traditional hook and eye fastenings. The Lingerie Dement line, which translates into English literally as ‘insane lingerie,’ features discreet magnetic clasps at the front of the bra, concealed …
… by bows, and knickers with the ‘flick-off’ magnet function at the hips (again, concealed by bows).
Lingerie Dement’s website calls the range ‘romantic and naughty,’ and describes the magnetised fastening system as ‘very strong.’ There are a range of designs to choose from, with styles designed to suit cup sizes up to a UK D, but they’re not cheap. A pair of knickers from the Lingerie Dement line costs from £45, whilst a navy silk set of lingerie costs £137. (Roughly 72 USD and 220 USD respectively. )
The line is currently only available in France, retailing online at jollia.fr, and at a selected number of boutiques in Paris and the USA. Stylist Sam Saboura reportedly told the New York Daily News that:
‘It [the magnetised lingerie] brings a little bit of theatrics into the bedroom. There’s kind of a fun quality to undressing someone in an intimate way, and this would give that tear-away effect.’
I think this guy is right on the ‘tear-away’ front. Whilst having your pants ripped off in a fit of passion is, I’m sure, something many women desire, no-one wants their expensive 137 quid undies ripped to shreds. If you’re careful around MRI machines and industrial magnets, I’d say Lingerie Dement solves that problem quite nicely… but I’m not convinced it’ll catch on. ;)

So my grandfather takes me to get tested for my learners permit driver’s license, and as I step up to be next in line, the front closing clasp on my bra breaks. My bra starts sliding off, and I am awkwardly trying to find a way to cross my arms to hide the fact that my bra is now sliding around to my back. My grandpa doesn’t say anything, but is staring at me like I’m an idiot. I tell him I really have to go to the washroom, and he says fine, hurry, and he’ll hold my spot in line. I run to the washroom, do the ol’ bra out the sleeve trick, and run back to get in line. Clearly knowing I couldn’t have gone to the washroom that quickly, my grandpa gives me a suspicious look, but doesn’t ask about it. Now looking rather inappropriate in the chest area to anyone who would dare to look, I write my test, pass, and have the most angry/terrifying looking driver’s license photo captured on my license for the next 5 years.
This is why these super magnet bras will never make their way into my lingerie drawer. And why I always have safety pins swimming around in the bottom of my purse.
Hahaha! Best story ever!
If you can’t bear that extra second that delays you from nudity while unhooking a bra….well….you might be a nympho. I suppose it could be fun, but that’s rather a lot of money. Usually I let clothes be ripped if I was going to throw them out soon anyways.
Eh, for what they’re trying to sell these for, I’d say you’re better off just buying some magnets and sewing your own if it makes that big of difference to you.
I doubt anything held together by a magnet will keep my D’s in check. Can’t wear anything that’s oh-so-flirty without an underwire anyhow. I’ll pass.
Perhaps if they use super magnets, they could hold up. I’ve seen some awesomeness.

:D
But I agree that you could definitely make your own for much cheaper. Interesting novelty idea.
Kai – I have some of these magnets.
Let me tell you – they are freaking dangerous! I can’t tell you how hard these are to handle. Getting them off of the fridge is an exercise in and of itself.
The first couple of months that I had them, I was sporting some pretty nice blood blisters, let me tell you!
How did you get a link through without being moderated? Are you paying off Sarah?
Shhh! Don’t tell!
More than one link in a post gets me moderated. A single link seems to be a coin toss. I’ve had them go through; I’ve had them get moderated.
