Anita Hill, the lawyer who testified about being sexually harassed by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas while she worked in his office, nearly derailing his confirmation, received a nasty surprise on her answering machine from Mrs. Thomas:
“Good morning, Anita Hill, it’s Ginni Thomas. I just wanted to reach across the airwaves and the years and ask you to consider something. I would love you to consider an apology some time and some full explanation of why you did what you did with my husband. So give it some thought and certainly pray about this and come to understand why you did what you did. OK, have a good day.”
Besides being creepy, this is disrespectful …
… on so many levels.
Although much of Hill’s testimony against Thomas was of the he said, she said variety, several other women claim to have been harassed by him and another co-worker said that while she didn’t think Thomas’ behavior was harassment, she certainly understands how it could be construed as such. Mrs. Thomas’ tone in the voicemail makes it seem like she is trivializing sexual harassment (and she is a conservative, mama grizzly-type, so I wouldn’t put it past her) and essentially telling Hill to repent for some sort of sin she committed.
Newsflash, psycho lady, your husband is the sinner (kind of paradoxical, given he almost became a priest) who put pubic hairs all over his coke and couldn’t shut up about all the animal porn he watched.
Thankfully, Hill is standing her ground and is having none of this “olive branch” (my, that’s rich) Mrs. Thomas is extending: “I have no intention of apologizing because I testified truthfully about my experience and I stand by that testimony.” It’s good to finally see someone willing to stand up to the blatant anti-woman and racist politics of the right wingers and to see it coming from someone as visible as Hill. The Teabagger crowd seems to put their feet in their mouths every time they open them, so maybe this will finally teach them to shut up, but they don’t even seem smart enough for that, so I’m not holding my breath.
Although I love this article, I just wanted to take a minute to point out how incorrect it is to deem all right wingers racist.
It’s, uh, incorrect.
Or for that matter, anti-woman.
I’m not sure if I would link Clarence Thomas’ trophy wife with the Tea partiers. Mind you, I don’t care for the Tea Party in the slightest, but I don’t think Mrs. Thomas is on the same wavelength as they are.

Maybe Mrs. Thomas was drunk when she left the voicemail. It really doesn’t make sense in any other context.
Never mind, I take that back. I googled Virginia Thomas; apparently she’s the president of a Tea party advocate group. Huh. Still not sure if her madness has much to do with the Tea party, though.

I thought it was fine until the last paragraph when it became not about this woman but about the “teabaggers” until then I liked the article… *sigh* I even had a line about how it wasn’t a crazy rant and after having read your stuff I knew something about crazy rants… but then he ruined it with the last paragraph and you became somewhat right. *sigh*
I’ve always thought demanding an apology was just plain moronic, if you actually get one it’s going to be the snottiest false one you’ve ever heard. And the second option is going to be the person telling you to go to hell you pompous ass.

I had a friend once who was in AA. One of the steps of AA is “Making amends to those which we have done wrong.” Her interpretation of this was…”I’ve been making a list, and here are the things that you have done to me and this step says you should apologize.” I was like, WTF girl, go back and read it again!
