I came across this woman’s segment on YouTube. She’s proposing Snooki Feminism to you, and though she could definitely lay off the coffee, she makes a point if you really listen.
The 21st century’s answer to feminism, according to LJ? Snooki. As in Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, of Jersey Shore. Yes. That very Snooki. No, please, don’t stop reading — I promise you this gets … better. At the very least.
Go ahead. Go watch the video, if you haven’t already.
OK. So you’ve watched the video. I’m proud of you for sticking it out and humoring me. I just sat and re-watched it along with you, and I’m still as concerned as I was the first time around. And moreover, am I the only one kind of offended by the way that LJ claims that a “true” feminist has to be rocking what she considers grubwear, and can’t pretty themselves up at all?
Think she’s joshin’? Do you agree? Disagree? Are you just frightened?
Ah, Saturday conundrums.
You know, I can kind of understand what her caffeinated mind is expressing. Although I might cry if there were more Snookis in the world. I can’t decide if this is done in jest or not, though.
Um, no. I agree that it is kind of insulting to state you need to look grubby to be a feminist (although she says she’s kidding.) I also find it untrue that the only reason you would want to look grubby is because you are a feminist.
I don’t watch Jersey Shore, so I could be completely wrong, but from the press I see Snooki getting on gossip sites, etc. people don’t really take her seriously. There is a t-shirt with her picture on it precisely because people see her as some sort of joke. I can’t see someone who is ridiculed being some sort of icon of a new feminism.
This woman needs to lay off the coffee, put down the magazines and get some fresh air for a little bit.
Only Ellen Page can be Ellen Page, LJ.

Hello! It’s me, LJ, the woman in the aforementioned video.
I’m really glad that you featured it and that it provoked any amount of discussion. Also, to prove that I really am LJ, here is my video response:
