What do you think about what this guy has to say regarding “older generation” feminism versus “new generation” feminism?
According to the man in the video, the former is all about dominance over men, and the latter revolves around … bigotry? I’m sorry. I just … don’t see the correlation.
Last I checked, feminism (to me, anyway) was all about equality. Do some women take it to an extreme and abuse their fellow person? Sure. But you know what? Just as men, women, minority groups and religious proponents have been saying since the inception of time, you can’t judge one particular group by the actions of a few zealots. And as far as I’m concerned? It’s precisely what this guy’s doing.
Thoughts?
I don’t understand this fellow at all. Where is he getting these streange ideas?
!. I am 51 years old.
2. The guys hitting on me the most are in their 30′s, some in their 40′s.
And Joey, when he remembers, but he often requires verbal prompts.
3. I believe the sex industry should be legalized.
4. I don’t like young girls being promiscuous because they are giving *themselves*, their souls away. Once you reach a certain age, bang away – if that’s what you want.
5. This guy has really thought this out, but it is flawed because his view of women is strangely skewed.
Blurry, your so hot your melting the plastic in my Depends!
Where did boring go? I disappeared for about a week when my computer started shooting sparks and now he has vanished… along with Sydney…
Shhh! Don’t say his name, he might come back!
I had gotten used to not having troll-barf spewed on every thread.
I rather liked his posts, some were quite witty. I miss him.
I’m sort of surprised to say it, but I miss him too. Come back, boring!
I am back! My job has been super busy of late so no time for posting. I would post something witty and insightfull but I am able to post now because I am home sick with the flu. And shivering in a pile of sweat soaked blankets does not lend itself to wit. So… Have a nice day.
Hey, Boring — we missed you!
JorgeMacD disappeared also. But I don’t think he ever posted anything positive, ever. (I’m kind of an optimist; negativity irks me)
I miss Jorge and Boring… I knew when I posted that I was forgetting someone and I could not remember the name, thanks Erin, sorry disappeared Jorge.
I think his thought process is incredibly interesting, but I don’t agree. I’m glad I watched it, though, it’s intriguing. I really don’t see the correlation to bigotry. Eh.
As far as the prostitution/slut argument, though, I think most feminists support legalized prostitution. I think women “compete” with each other by nature, and this can cause jealousy. However, I think that it’s something that can be overcome easily. A lot of immature girls (and some older women) are insanely jealous and cannot stand the idea that their significant other should be seen anywhere near another woman; this is an incredibly petty reaction, and something that really requires little effort to ignore. So I suppose I understand his thought process, but I very much disagree with it. I certainly don’t consider him a woman-hater or anything of the sort, though.
‘I am a feminist because women get treated badly’? I think feminism, as in the above post, is about equality. Men get treated badly too, if not conforming to expected social roles, but isn’t that what feminism is about, getting rid of these social expectations of how men and women are supposed to behave to a point where everyone is free to chose what they want and not have to conform?
I also think that he makes some interesting points, such as people often get treated badly by their own group, and maybe he is in the place where labels are not needed as in ‘feminism’ is not needed, because he views women and men as being equal and free to choose what they want to do. I think that’s what the goal of feminism is, that in the future people will not treated someone badly just because they are a woman or because they are choosing to act against the expected gender norm. And I believe that at some point in the future we will reach this, and we’re closer to it nowadays than ever, but I’m just not convinced we’re quite there yet. Especially taking into account what is going on in other countries. So yes, thank you for posting this video, it was interesting, and I shall stop rambling now.
I think feminism emerged because women needed to be brought up – they were well behind men. If the exact same tactics continue after women are equal to men, they’re now trying to elevate women above men.
This is not to say that that is the point of feminism, or that all work that way, but some certainly do.
I think feminism now has to go one of two ways:
either mutate into an equalism, and try to help men and women be seen on equal terms in all areas
or become very focused. Stop worrying about the broad stuff, since on the whole, women are doing fairly well. Look at the smaller areas where there are still issues. Stop claiming women make 70% of men’s wages, and crusade in the smaller areas where women really are paid less, or given fewer opportunities. Work internationally – focus on a place where women there are where women here were 50 years ago when feminism was desperately needed.
I think either one gives credit to feminism, and helps override the small group of man-hating feminazis.
Feminism is a bigoted hate movement. I am not saying all feminist’s are bigots; just that most are clueless.
Look at the actions of feminist’s like Nancy Pelosi, and how she pushed for men’s heart disease health budget(which in 06 the general men’s health budgets was 50% of the women’s health budget, she pushed for it to be slashed by over 5%, meaning for every dollar spent on women’s health less than 45 cents was spent on men’s) to be slashed in favor of 90 year old women’s heart disease. Even though heart disease kills men as young as 30.
Look at the VAWA, study after study shows that men are victims of DV roughly 40% of the time. Yet feminist’s at the NOW and in government push for police and judicial traing(training for Judges and police officers about DV) that only men can commit DV and only women are victims.
Heck an unemployed man in Nanticoke pa was stabbed by his girlfriend with a knife and he ended up getting arrested(because he pushed her away while she was trying to “talk” aka yell and scream at him).
How many young men dropped out of college because of feminist professors who turned their entire courses into “all men are scum”.
There is no evidence whatsoever that feminism stands for equality in the 21st century. While there is mountains of evidence that feminism is a female supremacist hate movement.
Seriously, look at many gender issue’s and replace “man” and “woman” with “black” and “white”. And if you can’t see the bigotry then you are blind.
I leave you with a truly radical and revolutionary message: Us guy’s are human beings too.
Are you really trying to tell me that college guys are such pansies that they can’t take shitty teachers? They have one crazy feminazi professor and drop out of college forever? Yeah, put down the Koolaid and stop listening to Glenn Beck, sweetie.
It may also be a poor choice to assume that feminists believe that men are not equal to women. Most feminists are, in fact, equalists (as in, everyone is equally capable).
It is often hard for bigots to see their own bigotry. Most never do and only change when society changes. Even now you are using shaming language as well as insult’s based upon your own preconceived notions of gender roles.
I think the mistake your making is viewing all males as one entity that carries over from generation to generation. That is a false assumption. Among the millennial generation we grew up in an environment that was very negative towards us. From the “girl power” movement to hundreds of other initiatives that boosted girl’s self esteem at the price of boy’s.
How many “girl power” slogans and apparel used boy’s as punching bags? How often has society used males as punching bags the last 20 years? How would you feel if everywhere you went from all angles you where told what a lousy person you are because of your gender?
It is the exact same thing that bigoted white supremacist’s did to minorities during segregation. And it took a few people with extreme amount of moral strength(with the love and support of friends and family) to over come most of that adversity.
As a generation, millennial males are traumatized and dysfunctional(by and large barely functional actually). What do most young guy’s do? Alcohol, drug’s, video-games to escape reality and adult material instead of a real relationship. That doesn’t sound like the actions of a healthy person.
Everything in society boost’s young women and girl’s self esteem. What boost’s and gives hope to America’s young men and boy’s? Is it the high suicide rate? The high divorce rate? Crippling alimony and child support rates to look forward to? The high dropout rate? That fact that every tells us we are privileged while we are getting physically and emotionally curb stomped?
Where does this mythic reserve of strength come from? Or do we magically inherit the emotional reservoir of previous generations of males?
Imagine a little girl whose parent’s said “you can’t do this and that because your a girl” and was kept from full-filling her dreams; years later that girl became a woman and had two children.
A little boy and a little girl. Because of what she experienced as a child she did everything she could to boost her little girl’s self esteem and help her along. While leaving the little boy to fend for himself with nothing but the occasional hurtful remark born out of resentment for her own past mistreatment.
That little boy is America’s young men , and the abusive mother is feminism.
That is the perspective of most who say “feminism is a hate movement”. Most people are horrible at articulating things properly and end up saying the wrong things. End up clinging to whatever ideology helps explain the feeling, even it doesn’t match exactly.
P.S
I find it odd you mention “Beck”, from my statements I am obviously concerned with the lack of rights and discrimination males face these days; why the heck would I ever want to watch that self man-hater.
He spent a good deal of time brow-beating men and trumping up women as super parents. He is a tool of the conservative matriarchy.
Look up “Mothers of the Republic”, that is the origin of the whole “stay at home mother” thing; and where womens discrimination really took hold(in terms of equal wages for equal work as most work back then was physical, but the Mothers of the Republic activist’s pushed employers to grossly discriminate against womens wages because they felt it “stole from their families”).
Kris, I am going to try and be respectful to you, because I realize that it is not appropriate to be condescending to someone who is so deeply up his own ass that it should be considered a handicap.
Okay, let me try again.
Kris, I understand where you are likely getting much of your information and interpretation of cultural paradigms. Unfortunately, the arguments you laid out were a bit similar to the purposefully radical ones given by Baccalaureate students when trying to prove to Universities how they can take concepts and rework them outside of what their teachers (and contemporary academia) conclude upon. It *is* a good thing to be able to write a “Stalin was a Sweetie” and “Hitler was Misunderstood” paper. Mostly because they demonstrate the ability to eventually revolutionize a particular aspect of cultural knowledge once, as an experienced academic, they stumble upon something which rationally and emotionally can be concluded to have a different bend in the story. I wouldn’t be surprised if the current “anti-feminist” movement spawned from such a paper. Really, the regurgitation of the same stats and points made by antifeminists gets so tiring. I bet Kai bangs her head on her keyboard as hard as she does when she sees them as the facts stating women make a certain percentage of money as men. It might be pointless to reply to you. You have obviously made up your mind to dislike a whole group of people based on your preconceived notions that they all represent the same thing, despite really only being tied together by a vague term that which colloquially changes every moment. Republicans today are certainly not the Republicans of Lincoln’s time. In fact the Republicans of the Civil War are more analogous to Democrats today. Blanketly discounting what people have to say about themselves merely because of a label is ignorant. As per your specific arguments: Most budgets were cut regardless of their nature. More women experience expensive health problems than men. Many who do not understand health funding argue about breast cancer gets more funding than prostate cancer based on how many get it and how many people die of it- but health experts know that what determines appropriate funding for diseases are the YLLs (Years of Life Lost). This actually proves that prostate cancer gets *MORE* funding than breast cancer as far as what they each deserve practically. Both men and women have issues related directly to their differences in sex hormones. If compared, women actually have more issues. Not to mention there are more of us in America. People interpret VAWA stupidly time and again. It actually protects anyone effected by domestic violence. Your example about the man who was arrested doesn’t hold water. Of course he was going to be arrested. The police don’t know what actually happened. They had to question both of them, so they arrested both of them. Tha tdoesn’t mean they were being charged with anything. If you were going to make a racial comparison to gender issues, the men would be white and the women black- not the other way around. The argument you would be making essentially equates to having issues with affirmative action. Which, okay, make your argument, just make good points- which you have yet to do. Really? Everything boosts girls esteem? Please open a vogue magazine, turn on the TV, or look at the billboards outside your window.
You’re right, it is hard for a privileged white male bigot to see his own bigotry.
And I don’t know what kind of monster you had for a mother, but I have yet to meet a mother who treats her children differently based on their gender. And thanks for informing me of all the physical curb-stomping of men going on. I’ll make sure to do that later today after I castrate my boyfriend.
Much as I find your comment to be approximately 95% bullshit, I will agree that the “girl power” slogans tend to be absolutely ridiculous and contain no semblance of equality. One that comes to mind is:”Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them.” Is this sexist? Uh, yes. Is it serious? No, but that doesn’t make it better. Often, however, I find that sort of attitude among teenage girls; most women I know seem to have grown out of their “boys are mean and icky” stage by their mid-20s. It bothers me to no end when a woman has a bad experience with a man, or a series of men, and says that all men are sex-hound douchebags, because it’s clearly not true.
This thinking that the other gender is to be made fun of goes both ways, though. I’m so tired of hearing men (and women) joking that a certain woman should get back into the kitchen. I’m also sick of hearing men trying to insult women by calling them whores and threatening to spew hot cum all over their faces. So it’s not just the girl power movement.
Final point (god I turned this into a novella, didn’t I) if the matriarchy is so all powerful, why oh why is there still a gender imbalance in the highest levels of business, politics, and technology? Does this evil conspiracy of women just feel like not penetrating the highest echelon of society en masse?
Actually I am well aware of different feminist theories(branch’s) and the history of them. From the rise and fall of liberal feminism to the current domination of gender feminism in Academia. But as long as yous keep worshiping the gender feminist’s in charge I feel no need to differentiate.
Hmm I wonder what set yous off into a fit? Ahh history. Most feminist’s don’t like history, particularly the mothers of the republic movement. And most people don’t understand history and how things progress, can take on a life of their own.
The “matriarchy” is merely the indoctrinated ideal of women from the 1800′s. What women wanted back then. Well son’s being raised by mothers to be good little boy’s did what they thought was “right”. The road to hell is often paved with good intentions.
I am not denying the existence of male privilege nor am I denying that it still exit’s among the older generations. I am denying that it exit’s en mass among the younger generation. There is no evidence for it. There is evidence for economic privilege among males from higher economic status. Look at the UK, and the research they did into the “boy crisis” over there.
The facts are available, by ignoring legitimate grievances younger males might have all your doing is enabling those who really have an agenda(traditionalist’s) to hijack the issue.
I do find it odd that you weren’t able to refute your subtle bigotry or rather “ignorance”(to be accurate) and dismissive attitude towards the issue’s males face. Almost an element of denial there. And if VAWA was being enforced equally, why where recent court cases in California and W. Virginia needed for the law to be carried out if it is so egalitarian? Why in more heavily gender feminist states where law’s passed to establish primary aggressor? Look at the trouble lesbians are having with the current DV system.
The drop-offs are as much inter generational, economical and to a degree racial.
I may come across from a strong angle, but that is the only way you will ever find out anything meaningful in this day and age.
And it is amusing to see the whole “numbers” game used to prove your beliefs on the one hand and a form of rationalization to refute opposing numbers(look up men’s heart disease funding, guy’s as young as 30 are dieing of heart disease yet congress slashed men’s budget in 06 so they could spend more researching heart disease in 70+ women).
P.S the GOP platform hasn’t changed much since it was founded. And democrats still use the same tactics and from my own recollection I can’t recall of any KKK members being in the GOP in Congress. And any who thinks dem’s did African-American’s a favor via the whole Great Society social programs that increased ghettofication is kidding themselves. And if liberal Democrat’s are so “egalitarian” please explain to me the incident that happened at Harvard last year? Then again as an “egalitarian” democrat I doubt you where paying attention, so you probably don’t even know what I am talking about.
Oh.my.god. If you want people to take you seriously and not think you’re an idiot, please wrap your head around some grammar. Where=location, were=past, plural tense of “is”. Also, if you are using something in the plural sense, it’s BOYS, not BOY’S. You’re way too apostrophe happy.
I would like to refute your points, but you don’t seem to be listening and prefer to assume we all listen to the evil matriarchy of academia instead of using our own spiffy little minds.
First, Kris W, none of the topics you are talking about have to do with gender sexism. For example, an entire gender earning 30% less is gender sexism, but one person making 30% less is not. One indecent at Harvard does not equate to gender sexism.
.
Yes, sexist people calling themselves feminists exist, but just because I googled one person for group does not make the entire group evil. I’m sure your “perceived sexism” makes you mad, but that is all it is “perceived sexism.”
.
Second thing is why are you here? I could assume your hold some false grievances and are looking for a place to vent. But there is a ton of bad logic in your choice of here or other feminist sites to discuss said topics. If you want to change how the government does things you should talk to the government.
.
None of what I said denies that gender sexism against men exists. However, your assumption feminism is automatically to blame is not valid.
.
Very few examples of true gender sexism against. Yes, shirts that say things like “toss rocks at boys” are sexist. A man going to a meeting with a female divorce lawyer noted that all the posters on the walls of the office were pro woman. One poster showed a woman crying and person saying some comforting words like “well help you through this.” The only poster containing a male was about domestic violence and the male was the aggressor. He said to himself “where are my comforting words.”
But guess what!? None of this is feminism/ist fault. They don’t mandate posters be put up they don’t make the T-shirts that say toss rocks at boys. They are also not completely unsympathetic to Men’s issues
One of the characteristics of a hate movement is the deliberate miss use of statistics. The total gender gap(accounting for the older and younger generations) is 80%.
If you look at the younger generation women make more on average then their male counterparts. And 40% of married women made more than their husbands(pre-recession). Career women tend to make more then career men and family men/women.
We live in a feminist society, heck feminist jurisprudence is the governing philosophy of our legal system.
You can’t even refute what I am saying only calling to BS or pulling a grammar nazi stunt. And when you do try, you try and pull a fast one by using old statics.
Ever hear of the Nazi in Japanese occupied China during the second world war? He was horrified at what he seen the Japanese do. He wrote letters back to Germany and what not; completely unaware at what was going on in the “homeland”.
And I find it even odder that those rascal “sexist feminist’s” are the ones with all the power, in both the movement and in society(you would think if they are a poor representation of feminism there would be more “non-sexist feminist’s” in government).
“Just because some feminist’s are sexist” then please explain to me why the most sexist seem to be the most revered?
“One of the characteristics of a hate movement is the deliberate miss use of statistics. The total gender gap(accounting for the older and younger generations) is 80%.”
.
And then you do just that, the “miss use of statistics.” At first I thought perhaps you we commenting on something I said or a particular gap. Define 80% of what? thanks.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender_gap
It helps when people know what your talking about.
.
And 40% of married women made more than their husbands(pre-recession).
.
I guess your statistic means everyone is married. Otherwise whats the point of this statistic?
.
“If you look at the younger generation women make more on average then their male counterparts.”
“Career women tend to make more then career men and family men/women.”
.
It is good to look ahead, but this does noting for anyone over 30. Also, I noted that many of the women curving that statistic were self employed or semi self employed. It also does not speak to the education gap occurring in favor of women. So if your fighting for plight of men in education, I would again ask why are you here and how is it connected to feminism.
.
“And I find it even odder that those rascal “sexist feminist’s” are the ones with all the power, in both the movement and in society(you would think if they are a poor representation of feminism there would be more “non-sexist feminist’s” in government).”
“Just because some feminist’s are sexist” then please explain to me why the most sexist seem to be the most revered?
.
Who do you speak of? Example with links? Most revered? Who and how you know they are revered. Extreme government feminist? Who.
.
“you try and pull a fast one by using old statics.” Hm. Lets see what you pull.
Sorry about the wall of text, looked smaller in the thingy….
Joey, Joey (Hollering as Loud as I can) You are supposed to say, “That’s what she said!”
.
It’s no fun when you are working all the time, Joey. Don’t overdo.
Believe me,its no fun being assistant to the regional manager! Plus I’m trying to find out who the hell Waldo is.
You need to get a cat and name it Waldo.
Far simpler.
I had a cat,Cuddles, that was far simpler also.
