Despite a pretty impressive list of accomplishments, Rachel Maddow is perhaps best known for being the first openly homosexual anchor of a prime time American news program. Oh, and she was also the first openly gay Rhodes scholarship recipient. Forget about her years of work at MSNBC, her radio show, and her doctoral degree.
Nope, she’s just that gay liberal TV lady [Ed. Note: I love Rachel Maddow and I love her show!].
And now, a recently released yearbook photo of Maddow is making the rounds. Um … it looks nothing like the Maddow familiar to the public eye. I had to do a triple take in order to meld together the blonde woman in a picture from the early nineties with the Rachel Maddow that appears on my television screen. However, what really caused me to choke on my taco dip was Thaindian News’ written coverage.
A yearbook photograph of Rachel Maddow has now entered the online world and has generated a lot of comments. In the photograph, Rachel Maddow has an archetypal blonde façade. She has a charming smile. She possesses blonde hair till her shoulder. She has worn beautiful pearl earrings and a pearl necklace in the yearbook photo. The picture illustrates Maddow in an off-the-shoulder black dress with earrings. Rachel Maddow has, over the past many years, normally not been the target of popular concentration for her clothes. However, if truth be told, in the photograph, the now generally dressed down Maddow strongly appears to be a component of the category of customarily sexy Californian blondes in high school.
The broadminded host of MSNBC, Rachel Maddow, currently has short and cropped brown hair. That is probably deemed as necessary by her to appear like a thinker. However, the yearbook photo demonstrates that she once come into view more like a standard Republican daughter, who was dressed perfectly and a bit conventionally, complete with a pearl necklace.
Okay, before I shoot off into the stratosphere here, just a quick note on Thaindian News. It is, rather obviously when you think of it, based out of Bangkok.
Thaindian News is a news portal based in Bangkok, syndicates news articles from a number of news agencies and produces dozens of news stories daily from its editors. The website targets traffic from search engines such as Google News as well as thousands of regular readers. Currently, the website reaches nearly four million visitors a month, or about 150,000 people daily.
Thaindian News started off as an online news service for Indians in Thailand. Now Thaindian News provides news and updates affecting the whole world.
The American media in general was a bit more … contained. Looking at The Huffington Post and Popeater aren’t nausea-inducing, but I suppose there’s gotta be one in every crowd.
Three words I never thought I could say about Rachel Maddow: I’d tap that!
What kind of world do we live in where the yearbook picture of a smart, successful woman who happens to look very different now is creating such a disturbing stir?
I’m planning on being a bestselling novelist (and screenwriter … I have big dreams) one of these days, and I fervently hope that none of my yearbook pics are ever held up for public consumption. Let me just say that my braces didn’t come off until I was a senior. However, it’s one thing to make fun of dorky orthodontia and poofy bangs. It’s something else entirely to make such a fuss about how a woman “used to be hot,” implying that there is something wrong with Maddow’s physical appearance now (although if she was a conservative, she would have gotten the “hot” treatment long since).
If Katie Couric or Diane Sawyer had an awful yearbook picture that suddenly became public, it would be forgotten pretty quickly or even written off in the “Yeah, who hasn’t had a bad picture taken?” way.
Why is it news that Rachel Maddow had a good yearbook picture taken? And is this a passive act of homophobia or merely an automatic response to a visual shock?

What’s disturbing, exactly?
Huh. Why is her old yearbook photo so significant, again? Because she didn’t look like a lesbian then? Wow.

So she fit in in highschool, and realised when she was an adult that wasn’t her style. At least she actually looked good while doing it, and she looks good now, just different.
Maybe someone’s out of real news??
And by ‘fit in’ I really meant ‘went with the whole bleach blond beach babe’ look, I reread and realised it didn’t really say what I actually meant.
She is very attractive, more so now with her short hair. she is also one of the liberal commentators that i enjoy listening to. i know you all think that I’m a FOX news dude, but The Riley Factor is the only show I usually watch on FOX. I like Joe Scarabourogh in the morning, and sometimes Rachel at night.
