Evidently women think that there’s less risk of STDs when allowing their male mate to knock upon and enter the “back door.” However, a new study from the City of New York states otherwise and presents some pretty startling occurrences: only 23% of women who engage in anal sex make their partner use a condom. New York’s homosexual men are topping the charts in safety — an estimated 61% of homosexual men insist upon using condoms when engaging in sex. A lot of people are clearly in denial that anal sex can sometimes up the ante for contracting a sexually-transmitted disease. According to the study, engagement in anal sex can up your chances for contracting an STD by an additional 30%.

This concept is almost unfathomable … Anal sex (aside from the fact that it’s a completely different, ah, “region”) is no different than vaginal sex. It’s another object entering the body that has the likelihood of carrying disease when unprotected sexual intercourse is frequented.

However, the lack of condom use for anal sex is hardly incomprehensible to some, I suppose. The majority of sexual education in schools and messages through Public Service Announcements focus heavily on pregnancy prevention — as if people are only using sex to procreate. Have they ever had anal sex? Come on. And why could this possibly be? Probably because some teenage females don’t constitute anal sex as “real sex.” And count me appalled, because I’ve never heard a more ridiculous thing in my life. See? Again with the “virginity” and “pregnancy-prevention.” Shit on a stick. (No pun, uh, intended.)

Don’t get me wrong: I’m not pitting all of the responsibility onto the woman who’s not allowing (or encouraging) her partner to strap up for anal sex. It’s completely a mutual responsibility that should be shouldered by both partners and if one doesn’t consent, well, all I have to say is — despite the method of bodily entrance, “no glove, no love,” man.

I guess no worries for me–I am totally anti-anal, myself. But even if I weren’t, I’m totally monogamous with an STD-free guy anyway…

    • Erin says:

Yeeah, buttsex doesn’t sound like something I want to get into anytime soon. What I find, though, is that guys would probably like to try it, but a lot of them are weird about screwing a girl on her period. Really, what’s the difference between poking around in blood or shit?

      Eeh. I feel dirty now.

  2. Joey says:

    Anal sex is for assholes.

  3. Alzaetia says:

My cousin is gay and we’ve had a lot of talks on the subject of anal sex. People who have anal sex regularly have a greater chance of infection because the skin is more delicate and easily torn.
I wonder if people would be more educated on the subject if the subject was less taboo?

  4. Miriam says:

You know what else is different between anal sex and vaginal sex aside from the location?
Your ass doesn’t produce any lubrication of it’s own to help things along.

I feel anxious thinking about removing that extra bit of help a condom provides to keep things slippery. (Since without one, water-based lube evaporates even faster.)

  5. Joey says:

We have a guy at work that fucks up all the time,we call him anal lube. He gets real upset!

  6. Erica says:

Here’s another thing- the condom would act as a poop barrier. You would never have to touch poop.

    • male says:

even with a condom, the poop still builds up at the base of the ding-ling more than the shaft anyway.

You’re gonna get shitty, condom or not.

That is why anal sex has a big post-orgasm let down than other forms of sex. Its over, and youre shitty, and she ain’t given you any in the shower.

  7. Kai says:

I’ll put the responsibility on the girls. Yes, it is definitely the responsibility of a man to use a condom. But it’s also the responsibility of a girl to make sure a condom is used. Otherwise, she’s knowingly putting herself at risk – and if she’s not willing to be assertive about her own safety, I have little pity when she gets a disease.

Regarding condoms, I think another big mistake sex educators have made is this stupid change to ’sexually transmitted *infections*’ – as though it’s something little you can clear up with no trouble. I guess they don’t want to stigmatize people, but seriously? Tell kids how bad this stuff is! Show them the full-colour photos! Scare the shit out of them! Teach them that if they really don’t want to end up with any of these diseases, abstinence is the only sure thing, but a condom makes a huge difference if you do choose to have sex.
The more STDs are treated as minor issues, the more people are likely to trivialize them.

    • Lexie says:

Showing the kids pictures of STDs really doesn’t do much. Where I went to high school we had a day in sex ed where they showed us full color pictures of what STDs looked like and it scared people for about…5 minutes maybe. A lot of teenagers think that they are invincible and reason that would never happen to them. I’m really not quite sure how to approach educating them about pregnancy and disease prevention when they think this way.

      • Kai says:

I think it’s probably impossible to completely overcome the ‘it can’t happen to me’ mindset. But I think it’s a step closer than the current downplay of teaching about ‘infections’, and the easy treatments for them. The fact that many people think AIDS is cured, or downgraded to an ‘infection’ that drugs completely control is quite concerning to me.

  8. Harriet Meadow says:

Here’s a question, ladies: does anyone of you lovely women here actually like anal sex? I’ve never met a woman who actually liked it, myself included; it kind of feels like pooping and then having the poop shoved back up and then pooping again (repeatedly). But I have guy friends who swear that there are some girls who like it (whether or not they’ve actually met these girls is a different story). What do you all think?

    • Erin says:

I’m going to go ahead and say most women probably don’t love it…
Maybe guys tell themselves that there are women that love it so they can pretend they’ll get some someday. It’s like threesomes.

      • waka waka says:

i looove anal sex, and actually get mindblowing orgasm, go figure. i´ve had anal with 2 guys. the first guy we were not that serious and just dating and I felt the discomfort and never got an orgasm. with the second guy, my boyfriend of almost 3 years, it is the best experience i´ve had, sometimes even better than vaginal sex (is is called that?). guess it depends on the love and trust you have with the person.

    • Anonymous says:

      I do, actually!

    • Matrim says:

I actually know a few girls who like anal. And, no, that’s not just my wishful thinking as: 1) I’m not sleeping with, nor do I plan to sleep with, them, and 2) I have absolutely no interest in penetrative anal sex either giving or receiving. It’s just come up in conversation. From my experience and from what I’ve gathered it tends to be an acquired taste, but there are people (both men and women) who adore all forms of anal (it’s not just penetration you know).

I’m all for people trying new things, I’m of the opinion that you shouldn’t knock it until you’ve given it a go (unless it’s something seriously dangerous). However, you should always wear a condom or make your partner wear one. Not only does it prevent STDs, but it also prevents all sorts of other minor infections seeing as how poop is little more than undigested stuff and bacteria.

    • male says:

There are def girls that are into it. I have asked them about it and have heard twice that they like how “violating” it feels. (women are weird).

My current only likes it when she’s REALLY drunk. She will volunteer it. Rub herself to orgasm. But then gets mad at my when its over! (women are weird).

      • Erin says:

Your current? She sounds really special to you.

        • male says:

Sorry. Upon re-reading I noted it sounded crass. But, reality is, that is the way guys think. I am about as pro-woman as a sexually active hetero can get but I still think with me hormones. And yes, she is VERY special to me.

        • Erin says:

Haha I figured, I was just being a shit. :)

        • Erin says:

          Ooh. Bad unintentional pun.

        • Kai says:

“Upon re-reading I noted it sounded crass. But, reality is, that is the way guys think. I am about as pro-woman as a sexually active hetero can get but I still think with me hormones.”
Way to excuse yourself. No, that is not the way ‘guys’ think. That is the way *you* think. Yes, some other men work the same way. Some women do. Some of all sorts of people are crass.
But if you are, own up to it. You don’t get to blame bad behaviour on your hormones or gonads any more than anyone else.

  9. Joey says:

I hear its very popular in prisons.

  10. FrankieB says:

I happen to love it. And I know several other women that enjoy it as well.

As far as poop is concerned, when my bf & I do have anal intercourse it is always planned well ahead of time ( I am the one that generally initiates the majority of backdoor action.) that I may have time to prep the area & we always use a condom.

  11. FRANKIE BISHOP says:

OK LISTEN UP! WHEN YOU BOYFRIEND CUMS IN YOUR ASSES YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM IS ((( WEAKEND ))) BECAUSE IT DOES NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THE SPERM. THIS IS WHY FAGS DEVELOP AIDS.

I HAPPEN TO LOVE BANGING GIRLS IN THE BUTT BUT, NO PUN INTENDED, I USE A CONDOM EACH TIME.

    • Rebo says:

OOO soo thats how you get it! Silly me I thought it was a retrovirus that attacked your body’s immune system after being exposed to infected bodily fluid. There is going to be a surge in colon cleansing now we know that sperm in your ass causes aids…..

  12. squeeziee says:

Oh God – I’ve just seen a guy have an anal abscess surgically removed (thank you Channel 4) and now I’ve read this article. THE IMAGES IN MY MIND. I need to bleach my brain.

(Sidenote: how are broadcasters allowed to put footage of anal abscess surgery on my telly at 8pm, WITHOUT WARNING ME?)

  13. nrrvus says:

My gf actually prefers it, she like the rest but loves anal.
