Guess What Gay-Hate Group is Picketing Constance McMillen’s Graduation, Of All Things?

The Westboro Baptist Church! You got it!

Damn, man. Poor Constance just can’t seem to catch a break — and all because she’s a homosexual teenager. Uh, last time I checked, there were things much, much worse than a young woman who is attracted to young women. Such things like pestilence, famine and genocide, lest we forget. Come on.

It’s really no surprise that Westboro Baptist Church — a church that’s openly hated gays since its inception — caught wind of Constance’s uphill battle toward equality. It’s been all over the news and as such, negative attention will be drawn, naturally.

The church, led by crazy pastor Fred Phelps, claims that they’re going to picket Constance’s graduation and are encouraging others to help dissuade the school from letting McMillen graduate:

“WBC will picket the graduation of Itawamba Agricultural High School to remind the parents, teachers and students of this nation that God said ‘Thou shall not lie with mankind, as with womankind, it is abomination.”

The church also places blame on the parents who “faked” their disapproval regarding Constance’s sexual preference:

“The parents of Fulton, MS feign outrage that a filthy dyke wants to parade her ‘girlfriend’ around at their night of fornication called a prom. They had a duty to teach their children what the Lord requires of them. They shirked this duty.”

Uh, last I checked, Constance was the one who got the shaft on this deal … or did I miss something?

Constance is graduating May 22nd at Itawamba Community College. I really, really hope that the WBC doesn’t show up to ruin yet another function of Constance’s high school experience. I think the girl’s had enough, frankly.

Go to hell, Phelps. You’ve got one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel … walk the walk. Please. I know you’re a bigoted asshat, but do those gays you hate so much deserve to be stripped of an education, too?

  1. Even if they wanted to the school can’t legally refuse to let her graduate can they? I mean if she has the grades to pass high school the school can’t simply decide they don’t like her and ruin her future… right?

  2. I’m pretty fucking sure God doesn’t care whether gays graduate high school or not. I briefly looked at their website. That lasted all of 10 seconds before I closed the window lest I punch my laptop.

  4. I just don’t get WBC… I’ll never understand their point of view. Usually I can rationalize people’s beliefs that I don’t agree with (or even think are insane) ie “He thinks that a woman’s place is in the home because he was raised in the sticks a hundred years ago” but who raised Fred Phelps to believe that picketing people’s funerals (or graduations) was a Christian thing to do?

    • Depending on your point of view, it is a Christian thing to do. Actually, it’d be more correct if he were organizing stonings. However he’s at least smart enough to realize that if he actually tried to follow his silly Bronze Age text to the letter he and his entire organization would be destroyed. I’m not saying that so-called moderate Christians are wrong, but it’s easy to justify most of the stuff WBC does by referencing the Bible.

      • Well, it also depends on what part of the bible you read…God alternately tells people to accept their heathen neighbors or to kill their heathen asses, depending on how pissy he is and who wrote the book of the bible one reads.

        • There is a HUGE shift in tone between the old testament and the new testament. While the moral rules of the old testament are considered to still stand, many of the old practices are declared no longer necessary by Jesus in the new testament.
You can pull out anything you want with creative reading, but it doesn’t mean it’s considered actual Christianity.

    • That comes straight from the teachings of Christ and its the most blatant double standard of all organized religion, your wiser than them!

    • I detest people who use Christ (aka, a figure who promoted love and rejected the notion of condemning adultresses and whatnot) to promote their own hatred.

      • WORD Erin.
I resent that these groups dare to call themselves Christians, while completely and utterly forgetting that little part of the Bible containing Christ.

      • THANK YOU. It’s infuriating that people use Christ as a means to perpetuate their completely fucked up and backwards sense of moral superiority.

      • I love that they carry signs that read, “God Hates The World.”

I’m like, “I see your bible is missing John 3:16…”

  5. The WBC does a lot of stupid shit. I find the only way to approach it is with entertainment at their preposterous connections.
Really, they should be picketing a lot more graduations if that’s their big problem. :)

        • I should clarify, anyone not in the WBC and not explicitly termed “fag” is implicitly a “fag enabler,” and anyone on the F list or the FE list is going to Hell anwyays so the distinctions aren’t really that critical

Here’s a fabulous quote of theirs, which just makes me laugh every time: “The only true Nazis in this world are fags.”

          CLASSIC

  6. The whole article upset me except “their night of fornication called a prom.” which is just the comic relief. Poor Constance, I just want to drive a million miles to give her a hug and tell her it’ll be okay.

    • I sure wish I would have gotten a little fornication, are you listening Sandra. I even bought you some cherry vodka,I hate vodka!!

  7. Ah, the WBC. Everytime the come up in the news, I feel as if I have to say, “We Christians aren’t all like that!”

  8. *shrugs* Yeah, not surprising. The WBC doesn’t even shock me anymore…maybe a few years ago they could still rile me up, but these days it’s just a mild sigh of dejection.

As an atheist, I find them exceedingly silly, though not nearly powerful enough to make me worry about them. I’d hate to be a moderate Christian who has to deal with their vocal brand of Biblical idiocy…

  9. This while story upsets me, my family is from Fulton, and my father went to that high school! It is making the whole community look terrible and backwards. I have cousins that go to that school and I am just ashamed. I am so happy my father left when he was 18 and I was raised in Canada…and I hope that the misconception of Fulton doesn’t effect it too harshly.
The bottom line is, Love is Love, no matter what gender or sexuality. If I have the right to look at a man, love a man and marry a man…then everybody should have the same right to do the same with any person!!!
