I guess the stigma’s going away, because yet another woman cops to the secret ingredient in her delectable cooking methods: breast milk!

Abi Blake, mother to eight month-old Tily, has learned the secret that many suspect but few succumb to — adding a dash (or a dollop) of breast milk to her cooking in order to really liven things up.

The thirty year-old mom states that she’s converted her entire family to being okay with her use of breast milk and has also pawned off her confections to unwitting strangers at festivals and fairs, all to the ultimate palate approval.

Blake compares the usage of mother’s milk to cow’s milk:

“Although the idea of eating something made out of someone else’s breast milk may make some people’s stomachs turn, it is full of vitamins that can never be found in cow’s milk … And why would you prefer to drink milk from a dirty cow over a clean, healthy woman? I have managed to convert all my family who now adore my breast milk recipes and they all agree it tastes better.”

In light of Abi’s recent discovery, pending research finally came to fruition for an additional benefit of mother’s milk: an enzyme in breast milk was proven to have an effect on the prevention of cancer cells. The compound was proven to kill 40 types of cancer cells through various tests.

In response to these developments, Abi’s put more thought into her food service “business” and claims that she periodically undergoes testing for HIV and AIDS before knowingly serving her dishes to the public.  She figures if it’s a cancer-beating entree, the more, the merrier!

Congrats to the forward-thinking mom and may the trend catch on like wildfire! … I think.

People get grossed out too easily. Of course breast milk is better for us, if was MADE FOR PEOPLE. Cow milk is probably much better for calves than person milk.

  2. JorgeMacD says:

It’s not “ewwww breast milk” it’s “ewwww someone else’s bodily fuids are in my food”

    • The Wicked 7 says:

But with the nature of our food industry, you really have no idea what is in your food.
You could have some factory worker pick his ass and then roll you up some pizza dough while he does some spit talking- you’d have no idea, and probably think it was delicious none the less. The industrialisation of the food industry has left us totally in the dark to how our food is prepared, and most people are just hunky-dory with that.
So I don’t see the ‘gross’ factor here. Breast milk isn’t like any other bodily fluid. It’s made to be consumed. By people none the less.
That’s a whole lot more than can be said for the majority of ingredients in today’s common food staples.

      • JorgeMacD says:

I do as much of my own cooking as I can, and I hate the inane alarmist arguments that nobody has any idea what they’re eating anymore. I don’t want anyone’s bodily fluids in my food, and I don’t see how inventing a silly episode where someone in a factory does something to pre-prepared food makes what this lady is doing any less gross.

        • The Wicked 7 says:

Because you are projecting the ‘grossness’ of the matter.
If you break down the production, components, and nutritional content of breast milk, you’ll to find that there is nothing ‘unnatural’ about it. It is not a bodily fluid like spit, blood, urine or semen. It is specifically made and formulated to be consumed by humans.
In terms of health, it could be argued that even untested, human breast milk is probably less like to have contaminates in it then the majority of store bought foods. The chances that a woman with some form of communicable disease would give her breast milk to others to consume is just about as plausible as anyone with a communicable disease trying to pass on their disease to another.
The point is there is really nothing ‘gross’ about breast milk, and I would encourage you to reflect on way you think its gross. If you don’t know why but just find it ‘icky’, well then I can’t really understand why you would knock down valid justifications in order to comfort your irrationality.

        • JorgeMacD says:

It’s a fluid produced by the body I don’t see how you can discount it from the bodily fluids category

        • The Wicked 7 says:

Because unlike other bodily fluids, which one might deem as gross because they of the purposes they serve in the body (i.e. removing waste, aiding in digestions, etc.), breast milk is meant to be drank. By people. Therein, making it different from other body fluids.

        • indigo says:

It’s meant to be consumed by the mother’s child, not people in general. I have said it before, and I will say it again, I do no want to consume anyones bodily fluid. Period.

And what about this – “I have managed to convert all my family who now adore my breast milk recipes and they all agree it tastes better.” – egomaniac much??

  3. rhonda says:

Mammal milk is for baby mammals. I’d be willing to drink it as a treatment if I had cancer but there’s no reason for it to be part of a normal adult diet.

    • Aras says:

I completely agree. Milk wether it be human, cow, goat, is made for the baby of that species. We shouldn’t be consuming milk past our childhood, and disregarding wether human milk is safer than any other milk for consumption this woman is slipping it into people’s meals without telling them. That’s what bothers me about this story.

    • JorgeMacD says:

Are you seriously bothered that people drink milk?

      • rhonda says:

They shouldn’t be drinking it for many reasons but if they want to that’s their business. It’s like drinking alcohol or smoking, getting tattoos or piercings. Nothing I’d do personally but so long as it doesn’t affect me people are quite free to continue doing those things. It just bothers me that it’s considered normal and indeed desirable behavior. There’s nothing natural or necessary about taking milk from another mammal for human consumption.

        • JorgeMacD says:

There’s nothing natural about the Internet either, and yet, here we are.

        • Erin says:

          ^Touche, haha.

Seriously, though, a lot of foods that really aren’t natural have helped improve human health significantly over hundreds of years. But then, I like milk, so I’m slightly biased against its being unnatural. :)

        • rhonda says:

I disagree. I think it’s entirely natural for human beings to want to connect with each, share and exchange information and opinions, and educate themselves on a variety of topics. That’s why we developed language and writing which lead to books and libraries and radio broadcasts and eventually the internet.

The point is, the majority of human beings can not digest animal milk of any kind after about age 5. Some can force themselves to drink it and never connect their symptoms to their milk consumption. Others take drugs to enable them to drink it which I think is plain ridiculous. Others have symptoms so bad that they can’t drink milk at all and yet they feel bad about that because the dairy industry is so powerful and persuasive. The human body is not meant to digest milk.

        • Erin says:

I hear a lot of arguments about what the human body was not “meant” to digest: bread/carbs of any kind, milk, meat, etc. Just because early man didn’t have cows does not mean that those who aren’t allergic to lactose should refrain. Hell, maybe humans weren’t meant to wear clothes either, but I’m keeping my pants on.

        • Copa says:

I take offense at your calling my wish to eat dairy ridiculous, I love yogurt and it’s good for you, occasionally I want something with cheese, or mushrooms cooked in butter and Worcestershire sauce, or pretty much anything processed including bullion for soup, or a bowl of dry cereal. I don’t call you ridiculous for being vegan who are you to judge me on what I choose to eat.

        • Kai says:

I loves me some cheese, but I agree that it’s not quite our bodies’ designed diet. Milk does a lot of bad in addition to the good, and it’s a little crazy that it’s become an expected part of a diet. I still use milk products where they’re helpful, though I don’t care for pure milk itself, but I don’t turn it into a big health thing.

  4. Kai says:

If it’s in a dish that is cooked, I would imagine anything problematic in it would be removed and the concern about disease transmission to be gone.

Otherwise, I stand by my point that we have a whole food raising, killing, and preparing industry under strict checklists for food safety, with penalties for non-compliance.
The concern about someone just adding their breastmilk, is that the ‘cow’ has not been checked for anything she might be carrying, nor has the milk been processed to remove it. (Unlike dairy farm regulations and pasteurization.) If I were satisfied on the safety of the lactating woman, I would have no issue with breastmilk in my food.

It’s a thick, whole milk, right? It’s probably quite good in some things. I bet it would make a super-creamy macaroni and cheese. I’m not suggesting it become a regular thing, but I don’t mind the thought.

    • rhonda says:

It’s also very sweet. I can’t imagine it would taste good in many savory dishes, certainly not as a main ingredient. A little bit might be OK taste-wise but I wouldn’t want to eat mac and cheese made entirely with human milk.

      • Kai says:

oh, sweet would change things. Never mind then, the whole milk’s probably the best creamy cheese-sauce base.

(I don’t even like milk, except in cooking.)

  5. Monica says:

Like cow’s milk is for baby calves, breast milk is for baby humans. I suspect there is more to this than she likes the way her breast milk tastes. I suspect she just likes the idea of everyone “tasting” her.

    • indigo says:

Exactly! A red flag went up when she said she had *converted* her family and that they *adored* her breastmilk. It’s one thing to feed it to people with their knowledge and consent, but to sneak it in is really disturbing to me.

  6. Copa says:

I’m severely lactose intolerant and I mean severely, I can’t remember where I read this but people produce shittons of lactose over other animals like cows which means if your oh so clever and sneaky and slip breast milk into my food and don’t tell I won’t take extra medicine or if the recipe normally doesn’t have milk but you decide to put breast milk in my food I won’t take any and you could make me incredibly ill for 3 days.

    • Kai says:

Well putting milk into food that doesn’t normally have milk is a different issue regardless of the type of milk.
But I hadn’t thought about different milks affecting people differently. I think it’s easy to agree that in general, people shouldn’t be serving anything with secret ingredients to anyone it could potentially harm.

    • Alzaetia says:

My son is lactose intolerant but breastmilk doesn’t hurt his stomach at all.

      • Copa says:

Really? oh man that’s gonna drive me nuts trying to figure out why, how severely lactose intolerant is the lad?

      • Copa says:

I came up with one possible, has your son been tested or was it process of elimination? because of it was elimination it could be that your son has a problem with the proteins instead of the sugars and if you have a low dairy intake yourself he probably wouldn’t have the symptoms (just read article but not explained perfectly sorry)

        • Alzaetia says:

That’s entirely possible. Breastmilk has never caused any adverse reaction (cramps, diarrhea, gas) but cow milk always does. Small amount of cheese don’t bother him, though.

So what the hell does that mean? *grin*

        • Copa says:

Cheese has lower levels, especially hard cheeses. It also means that your son is very lucky and has it mildly, in fact he may be able to have yogurt too if cheese doesn’t bother him please don’t go making your son sick on my advice though ;)

  7. Shannon says:

I think it’s really messed up that she’s serving breastmilk to people who don’t know that it’s in the food they’re getting. If she tells them and they still want the food, fine. But otherwise it’s totally unethical. Would it be ok for me to spit in food before serving it to people? No, it wouldn’t. I don’t see how this is any different. It’s a bodily fluid and I think people have a right to know what they’re about to eat.

What about people who are allergic to breast milk? Every time I’ve been exposed to it,it has resulted in overtime hours and risky investment in the money markets,to pay for college tuition.

  12. Matrim says:

It’s already been mentioned a few times, but I’m going to mention it again.

I have no problems with the idea of drinking breast milk (it’s nothing I haven’t done before), but I am concerned about disease transmission. With milk from other species it’s not a big deal (as 99% of the pathogens that will infect them won’t affect us, and most animal milk is also treated to reduce the threat to almost nothing). However, whole human milk could contain any number of nasties, depending on the person. And while using it in a cooked recipe may reduce the threat, there are pathogens that can survived being baked (or even boiled for some periods of time). I wouldn’t mind if it were a person I know closely and trusted the health of, but certainly not a stranger.

I think her behavior is deplorable. If people want to eat your breast-milk food, that’s fine. However giving those things to unsuspecting people is wrong. I view it as no different than a stranger putting his blood or semen in your food. Nutritionally ok, but dangerous to your health. And, yeah, she claims that she gets tested regularly (and I assume she’s in a monogamous relationship, putting her in a slightly more low-risk group), but it can take weeks (or even months) for HIV to be detectable. And that still doesn’t address the plethora of other pathogens humans can transmit through bodily fluids.

If some stranger fed me something, and then told me that they’d put their bodily fluids in it, I’d charge them with assault. Seriously.

    • Erin says:

Exactly! Why is it ok to be all “sneaky and cute” with your bodily fluids?

As evidenced by the comments, most people are probably not ok with your boob juice feeding anyone but your baby! Sneaking it to people is not funny or cute, nor does it make cooking with breastmilk seem like an endearing, harmless endeavor.

  14. Smithers says:

I totally agree with you, Matrim! I would def press charges!
This May, I am going to a Renaissance festival with my family, where home cooked foods are everywhere. I would totally flip out if I found out that I ate some stranger’s tit juice. And what verifiable proof does anyone have that she gets tested for diseases? Also, if she’s taking prescriptions, it can be transmitted through the milk glands. It would be a real shame if someone is allergic to whatever meds she might be taking, if she is. If I was her husband, I would more than likely get her counseling. This is not normal behavior. Her hubby is as nuts as she is. I don’t wanna offend anyone but I can’t help it. It is just WAAAAAY too weird. This has got to be one of the freakiest things I’ve read in a long time. What person in their right minds are going to drink breast milk? Really. Could you imagine the embarrassment her poor child is going to recieve at school when they get older? Geez…

This is such a cool idea! I had never thought of using breast milk as an ingredient. How neat! Breast milk is probably the best food a person could ever eat. As long as she makes sure she is not HIV positive, I have no problem with it whatsoever.

    Rock on Abi Blake!

  18. AN says:

Diseases can be transmitted through breastmilk. Cows milk does NOT come straight from the cow into the milk bottle there is sterilisation, pasturisation etc. I would react the same to this as to hearing that someone had “put” semen in my milkshake. This is digusting, this woman is disgusting and I think this is a form of abuse. People should have been informed of this…if they wanted to eat the baked goods AFTER learning what was in them fine. A TV show done a survey on people’s thoughts on breast milk being used to replaced human milk and by and large people thought it was horrible. Doing this without people’s consent is absolutely awful and if this woman can be prosecuted for anything she should be. Regardless of her “chances” of having diseases breastmilk can carry them, and regardless of the so-called health benefits people should have the choice!

  20. Much obliged for giving us some honest information on this topic. I have located a wide variety of honest information about natural health and some not-so-good recommendations. Do you have any more savvy suggestions or places on the Internet that I can find more detailed recommendations? This would be much appreciated! So, continue the good work!

  21. Sarah says:

    Hi
Surprised to read most of the comments. In older ages women milk was consumed. Moreover every mammals milk is suitable for its species. There’s nothing Eeeww, Female Breasts are to Produce for and anybody can consume irrespective to age. Breast milk has got all those nutrients that a human body requires.

How can other mammal’s milk could be suitable for us, whereas that is produced within that animal body as per their body requirement.

Now more researches are underway……Although it looks odd but its natural. Following this process of regular breastfeeding to your partners along with your child and the use in daily need will not only keep your whole family healthy. It is very much beneficial for females own health saving them from…… Breast cancer, Ovarian cancer, Cervical Cancer, Osteoporosis, Type 2 Diabetese, Heart attacks etc.

So women LOVE Breastfeeding to your family…..Choose !!!!!!!!

  22. Sarah says:

Although i agree to some extent with above comments. That the source may be unknown. that it is healthy or unhealthy milk. so better if every woman produce her milk for her family consumption for their better health. Then their would be no doubt !!!!!

  23. Anomy says:

It’s a fine idea, but her own intake of nutrition should watched carefully, because many toxins from pesticides and artificial ingredients get stored and secreted out of milk glands, so again to watch ones diet and make it as pure as possible before endavaouring in such persuits!
