Donna Simpson, resident of New Jersey, has big aspirations — she wants to weigh in at 1,000 pounds. Her current weight is at about 600 pounds and that fact in itself allegedly makes her the world’s 43rd heaviest woman, but she’s not stopping there. Simpson states that she wants to be the biggest and best because
How does she plan on going about this feat? Consuming tons of junk food and moving around as little as possible. Great. Her daily caloric intake is aimed at around 12,000 calories per day. God damn if I were able to eat that much in one day. If I could it without grossly gaining weight, I just might, being that I consider myself a “foodie”, too, just not in the way that this woman considers herself a “foodie.”
Simpson claims that her weekly food bill is around $750 and the majority of the bill is footed by people who donate the cash to her who “enjoy watching her eat.” Simpson is already in the Guinness Book of World Records for “World’s Fattest Mom” but she doesn’t want to stop there — her new-found notoriety has prompted her to aim higher. The main reason behind the need to feed?
She … just likes eating, I guess.
What do you guys think? Does this really fall under the category of “live and let live” or should society — and health care professionals — intervene, instead of watching this woman slowly kill herself?

If she wants to be the world’s largest dumbass, she can go right ahead. Hopefully she has a good insurance policy for her kids. Who will probably die at 30 from the crap she’s undoubtedly feeding them anyway.
Just think..along with watching their mother slowly die..her children will get to learn how to wipe a 600+ lb behind, when she can no longer do it herself. And give her spongebaths, because she can’t shower anymore. She is selfish beyond belief.
*sigh* Too tired to spell my own name right.
This is an addiction. We intervene with cokeheads and people strung out on heroin. We even go the opposite way and put people with eating disorders into treatment.
Clearly this woman has issues. Slow death by food is not a normal ambition, and she needs help. Just because we have a certain societal view of obese people doesn’t mean we should just let them die from something that could be avoided with intervention and therapy.
I threw up in my mouth a little bit when I tried to imagine eating 12,000 calories a day.
Yeah, I absolutely LOVE food and all the new and exciting and different tastes you can experience from eating it, but HOLY SHIT 12,000 CALORIES ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I’d barf.
I’m trying to figure out how that’s even really possible. Unless you’re washing down your food with a glass of melted chicken fat it’s going to be really hard. I’ve planned a 12,000 calorie menu…
Breakfast – Denny’s Ultimate omelette with a side of pancakes, coffee with cream and sugar.
Lunch – 2 big macs, a large fries, a 32oz shake, and 2 apple pies
Dinner – large meat feast pizza, 2 bottles of soda, 2 lava cakes, and 8 cups of ranch/blue cheese dipping sauce for the crust.
Snacks – 2 Grab bag sized bags of doritos, 1 pint of ben and jerry’s ice cream.
I’m getting chest pains just looking at that. There’s easily enough there for a family of 2 parents and 2 kids.
Uggghhhh that just sounds gross.
If I were going to throw vanity and health down the tubes for a meaningless record, I’d at least do it for like, amazing gourmet food.
And cheesecake. Every night. Like the Golden Girls.
OMG, 8 CUPS of ranch dressing!! I would have to smoke a lot of pot to eat all that ranch. Not saying I couldn’t do it, but it would be a challenge.
I would totally go for the good stuff too but it’s a lot harder to find nutritional information for that.
The cups of dressing aren’t cup sized cups, they’re 2oz I believe. I figured you could probably manage to use up a whole one for a slice worth of deep dish crust if you really drench it. Still, pretty sure even that much would make you queasy.
Good Lord, that’s disgusting. You could also just eat like, 5 awesome blossoms from Outback Steakhouse.
She’s a selfish bitch. Moms in particular have a responsibility to keep themselves healthy. She has a family who depend on her and instead of taking care of them she’s slowly killing herself. Imagine watching your mother doing this to herself and knowing that she’d rather sit around eating than care for you and that she’s deliberately trying to die.
You reiterate my point; this is exactly the same scenario as alcoholism. She needs treatment, not judgment. And in this case she is being paid (i.e. enabled) by people to continue eating. She probably sees that as the way to support her children. I’m sure she makes pretty decent money from it, too.
She’s doing this to be famous. It’s nothing like alcoholism. I also don’t think she’s making money, seems like she’s getting enough to keep eating but it’s not even covering her whole food bill.
I’m teetering in the middle with this one.
I doubt she initially wanted to be famous. I’m guessing she’s lived most (if not all) of her life significantly overweight.
It seems like she needed psychological food intervention 300lbs ago because she is NOW insane enough to try and become famous for it.
Oh my goodness….WHY would she do that to herself?! That is so sick and sad. It’s like someone trying to smoke more cigarettes than anyone else on earth or something. Completely self-destructive. She needs psychiatric help, pronto.
Know what? This women is basking in the attention of it all. Mentally ill? I doubt it. I think she is doing exactly what she wants to do when she wants to do it. Food is her everything, just like the alcoholic or drug addict. Now she has found a way to “explain” or “strive” for something and still feed her addiction.
You know what’s really good, that cheese cake filling spread on poptarts. I have not tried it on all the flavors yet,but I’ll keep you posted when my research is done.
The more I think about it,that stuff is great on cookies too!
What bothers me about this woman is that this scenario is exactly the kind of thing those opposed to the health care reform bill point to as a “See? This is the wasteful stuff your tax dollars would have to support. This is what socialized health care would condone.”
She wants her 15 minutes of fame. She’s not the first to attempt this, nor will she be the last. When you don’t have any other marketable talents or skills, what do you do? You become a monster.
What depresses me is she’s probably on the right track. She’ll have her own TLC show any day now. They love morbidly obese people, little people, and people who have a socially irresponsible number of children, and will give paid airtime to damn near any of them.
I wish people would stop encouraging this kind of behavior. I realize train wrecks are mesmerizing, but stare at them long enough and people start throwing themselves on the rails on purpose.
I wouldn’t be surprised if someone doesn’t pitch her a tv show. “Follow Donna as she eats her way into the record books!” Then they’ll have to do the post-op special, the 1 year later follow-up, and then she’ll be on Celebrity Fat Club.
Yep. We’re probably spot-on. :(
Sometimes people make me so very disappointed.
It’s the American Dream. Rise from a nobody to become a somebody. You can do it by getting pregnant at 16 and then trying to score a spot on an MTV show, or by making it into the Guinness Book of World Records.
Everybody wants to be somebody. She’s eating her way there.
She doesn’t need help anymore than any other American who is frustrated with their lot in life. She’s the result of the cultural obsession with celebrity, and I smell an upcoming reality TV show. And the ratings will be high. Because if there is one thing that people love more than a celebrity, it is seeing them crash and burn.
Yeah, I think you nailed it.
I’m surprised we don’t hear about ppl like this more often, actually.
Thank goodness most of us value being able to support out own body weight.
Fucking bloody hell she’s fat. I’d say live and let live, but she has kids, so that’s extremely bad, looks like she’s blind to her responsibilities.
Abortion: “It’s my body and I can choose what I want to do with it.”
Overeating: “Oh my god, I can’t believe she’s doing that to herself.”
Wry comment about having your cake and eating it too.
Fallacy, Red Herring or Straw Man, take your pick. Nobody’s suggesting it should be illegal for her to do this to herself, therefore the comparison doesn’t hold up. It is, in fact, her body, and she can do whatever she wants to it. People here have been expressing personal horror that she’d WANT to, and disgust at her REASONS for doing it (I challenge you to find ONE regular poster here who’d not be disgusted with a woman going for the abortion world record), but nobody’s gone so far as to suggest that overeating should be made a crime or that it’s morally wrong (except in the possible consequences of her children’s upbringing, which is a different kettle of fish).
FURTHERMORE, her eating a lot isn’t the cause of such abject horror amid the commenters, it’s the fact that she’s specifically overeating to try to gain an obscene amount of weight so that she’ll be famous. Again I suggest the far more comparable example of a woman going for some kind of world record for number of abortions and challenge you to see how many people WOULDN’T be disgusted with such a person too.
So before you try to drag your adorable little agenda into this completely unrelated topic, please learn the basic fallacies of debate. It’ll work out much better for us all in the end.
You committed a False Analogy in there. Overeating and abortion are not in any way similar topics and shame on you for lecturing everyone while committing such an obvious logical fallacy of your own.
I believe she only used that analogy because that is the tie Recondite used, why not use his/her own example against him/her.
Sometimes, humor defies logic.
You can laugh; it’s ok.
Both of them used false analogy. Just because Nat is responding doesn’t make it any less so. And Nat should have pointed out the false analogy from the get-go.
It reads to me like Nat did point out the logical fallacy “from the get-go,” and then proceeded to explain in detail why it was a fallacy.
5 bucks says she drops dead of a heart attack before she hits 700 lbs.
This is sad. I’m obsese myself at about 326lbs, but I’m trying to lose weight by making healthier choices. Purposely making yourself gain weight like this is unhealthy and should be treated as an addiction, not something that should be encouraged. She is setting an awful example for her children.
good for you !
Good luck!
Yes, best of luck to you!!
live and let live, but this shouldn’t be the kind of thing that people support or that society endorses. the worst part is that she’s doing this for some sort of perverse fame, and that society will give her that fame. (or infamy, at the least.) in my opinion, this comes down to an issue of society, and of a problem with society, more than with any individual. like, this isn’t the sort of thing people should be aspiring to, and it’s not the sort of thing they should supporting, financially or otherwise.
and think how much that $750/week could do for the esimated ONE BILLION malnourished people in the world. makes me sick. god, the priorities involved in this are sooo screwed up – some people choose to support her eating into unhealthiness rather than helping other people eat enough to be healthy. the distribution of calories in this world is as bad as the distribution of wealth.
what do you think her kids want to be when they grow up – fatter than mommy? (since being unhealthy and overweight is apparently a good thing in her family)
I would rather be in the Guinness Book of Records for eating out the most women.
Yeah, that would be awesome.
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha! That would be AWESOME! And slightly gross. But AWESOME! Haha. Thanks for the laugh!
This isn’t addiction, this is a plan to get as fat as possible in a deliberate manner. If you want to be the best at something, be the best at something that isn’t likely to kill you. I mean what she is doing is like trying to be the person who gave the most blood at one time without dying or seeing how many railroad spikes you can stick in your skull without brain damage. WTF?
I can’t even imagine how pathetic someone’s life must be if they are willing to risk it for fifteen minutes of fame and
a picture in book made to settle disputes in bars.
Isn’t there something positive and constructive this woman could do?
I was under the impression that Guinness no longer kept food-related records in order to avoid encouraging breaking them.
Guess I was wrong.
I also get the feeling that this whole website/record goes hand in hand with the sexual fetish in which men encourage their partners to eat so much the women become immobile. Which is pretty much would happen to her at 1000 pounds.
I’ve read a few articles on this woman. Couple of details that may sway some of your thoughts:
Her child is 7 months old. She tries to move as little as possible.. so who is caring for a growing toddler?
The people who donate money to her: are men. She has a fetish website where dudes pay a certain amount to watch her eat certain things. Not quite “wholesome donations”.
(i have no problem with fetish websites or the women who choose to take part. I just want people to know how she is actually fueling her goal)
I am a huge proponent for health care reform.. and this woman will be the teabaggers next poster child for the evils of socialized medicine.
Wow, just when I thought I couldn’t find her more despicable… o.0
Poor child, can you imagine the damage that she’s already inflicting on her baby? If she’s refusing to move if possible, she’s clearly not caring for the child, she likely won’t be able to socialise with her child in the future, she won’t be teaching her/him healthy eating and exercise habits and most importantly she likely won’t even be alive to see the child grow up.
If this didn’t affect anyone but her, I’d say she was a weirdo and that would be that, but she is so selfish to do this to her child. Clearly her life’s goal to be a record-breaking fatty is more important than anything else, so she should never have reproduced.
I was thinking the same thing.
I found it odd that no one else commented on the fact that people were paying her to eat…
How revolting.
Eh, I’m a bit of a prude though.
yeah, bad idea. I weigh like 370 and I sure as heck don’t want the struggles that would come with weighing more, I’m trying hard to weigh less, I don’t see the fun in being fat. I’m very unhappy about how I look, how I feel. but she’s not harming herself anymore than ppl smoking a freight train or drinking like a fish.
From what I have read in other articles about this woman, her husband is actually encouraging her to get bigger so I would say its a pretty safe bet that she is doing it mostly due to being under the impression that if she gets to *his* desired weight, then he wont leave her for someone bigger than she already is.
He’s whats called a ‘Feeder’… a fetishist who derives enjoyment from watching a woman eat and gain weight while she is the ‘Gainer’, the one who puts on the weight. There is also a third aspect of this fetish, ‘Encouragers’.. people not in the actual feeding/gaining relationship.. instead, they encourage the Gainer to keep piling on the weight by sending food or money to the Gainer. Most of the time, the Gainer or Feeder will put videos or pictures on the net, updating them weekly so the Encouragers will continue their support.
I’m a big girl myself, size 18-20 (Aussie sizing) and from past experiences in BBW (Big Beautiful Woman) chat rooms and dating sites, the majority of men on those sites are ‘Feeders’ who are looking for an already big girl and hope to encourage them to gain more weight. I was somewhat shocked to find that, according to a lot of the men on these sites, I was considered too skinny.. lolol.. and yet, too fat for the so called ‘normal’ sites.
For a time, I was tossing up between… do I lose weight for a shot with someone from a ‘normal’ site or do I gain a bit more weight for a shot at someone from a BBW site?
In the end, I thought ’screw it’, I like the way I am now.. I dont want to lose weight.. and I sure as hell dont want to gain weight so I’ll just be more selective in my choice of men to chat with :D However, I know a couple of girls who thought it was too much hassle to lose the weight to become more ’socially acceptable’ and instead, piled on the kilo’s so that they were more suited to the BBW guys… as you know, far easier to gain the weight than to take it off.
[...] Woman Aiming to Be “World’s Fattest” (51) [...]
So many things going on here. First, she’s clearly mentally ill. Nobody wants to gain weight and slowly die in front of their family for money alone.
The other articles I’ve read about her implicate her husband’s influence in her desire to even have a website and to continue to gain. I think it’s a classic case of control. You have a very unhappy woman with low self-esteem. Enter a man who makes her feel good about herself and takes advantage of her unhealthy mental state (perhaps through his own) and in the process, she ends up falling for the idea that this is all quite healthy and attractive (bolstered, of course by her paying fans) and now she’s just very deeply embedded in a state of denial.
As for being the tea-baggers’ (god, I get so much joy from that name) poster child, I have only this to say:
She’s said repeatedly that she firmly rejects the idea that morbid obesity comes with health risks of any kind. She said she simply doesn’t believe in that! In an interview I saw, she said, “It’s all made up anyway.” So clearly she won’t even be going to a doctor. Right?
Well, I hope that works out for her.
I’m planning to firmly reject the idea that I just turned 38 and pretend I’m not actually getting older. This aging thing….It’s all made up anyway.
Wow so her Husband is manipluating her into it?
What an asshole.
Did the post even say anything about her being married?
No caring partner would encourage this, even if their partner was the one who was insisting on it.
He’s convincing her to slowly kill herself…
Someone please help her get the fuck out of there and take the kids away from him too.
Well, I saw her on the news. She did some sort of local tv station interview and it was broadcast on the nightly news in Los Angeles and that’s where I first saw her. In that interview, she did talk about her husband liking her large and encouraging her to get larger and also start the website.
I saw another interview (which looked to be the same interview, just different clips from it) where she also talked about feeling attractive to her husband.
I put two and two together there and I figured her husband really has a big role in, at the very least, encouraging her to be unhealthy by continuing to gain.
I know this story is old news by now, but I just stumbled upon this:

I figured I should share.
