Terri Carlson, a gorgeous 45 year-old woman is putting herself out on the market, up for grabs to any man whatsoever — as long as he has health insurance.

I came across her website today and I was unsure of whether or not it was a joke, but after Googling the woman and her situation, I found it was true.

Carlson was born with a genetic immune disorder — a C-4 complement deficiency.  Complement deficiencies occur when the immune system does not produce enough infection-fighting proteins.   Currently, the only treatments available to even put a dent in this particular ailment are constant, large doses of antibiotics in order to fight off any potential infections that may or may not end a life.

Terri’s site is not only designed for potential suitors to contact her, marry her and place her on their health insurance, but to promote awareness of the gap that exists for patients with pre-existing conditions.  She is a recent divorcee and claims that her COBRA benefits will run out within the year.  Carlson pegs her monthly costs among insurance premiums, doctor visits and prescriptions to be just around $600 a month.  Terri claims that she designed her new website out of “frustration” for the apparent non-passing of the new healthcare reform and claims that she is simply looking for a husband who can pay her insurance premiums.

Being that Carlson has a pre-existing condition, she is finding a hard time in browsing available health plans — she claims there are none who will pick her up because of her genetic condition.

It’s kind of a bizarre thing … a woman soliciting herself online for the “reward” of health insurance.  It sort of puts the dire need for healthcare in the United States into a blunt, unhappy perspective.

While there’s got to be a better way for this woman to receive the stable healthcare that she needs, it’s still a pretty bold statement to make: it’s almost thumbing insurance companies off while stating that she’ll have her health insurance one way or another.

I wish Terri luck and hope not only that she ends up with a man that has fabulous health insurance, but a man who will treat her right, respect her and grow to love her.  It’d also be good if those two men were one man, ’cause I think the US government kind of looks down on that whole polygamy thing for the most part.

If she is willing to marry a stranger for health care, why didn’t she just stay married?

  2. Lady Goo Goo says:

    She’s pretty.

  3. Yo it's me says:

Maybe her ex wanted to marry someone else, who wouldn’t have been happy about his staying married.

    She is pretty. Good luck.

On a serious side, She is drawing attention to one of the most serious problems with our health care in the US. I am also “uninsurable.” I am self employed while my husband works for a corporation and I am covered under his plan. If something would happen to him (god forbide), I would be in the exact same boat.

The way it is now, the only plan I have available to me is a crappy HMO with lots of crappy specialists. My primary doctor has already said to me “diagnosed auto-immune disease, breast cancer and chemotherapy by the age of 43, you are uninsurable.” I am currently 52 and my primary really listens to me since she is convinced I know my body better than anybody doctor. With her help, I’ve been able to rejoin the ranks of living on a daily basis.

I might be able to afford her, but not the meds needed to keep my issues in check. Yes, it is a real problem that one doesn’t think about until they need it. A commenter on here the other day was saying she hasn’t seen her GYN since she doesn’t have health insurance. It’s a damn shame that we have to live like this in the US.

If she becomes unable to pay for her medical needs, she is eligible for Medicaid. The former USSR has a collapsed medical system because socialism failed. We have a system that needs some improvement, and I’m glad that we are going to take some time and do it right. We are 12.3 trillion dollars in debt, the strength of the dollar is in trouble overseas.

      • Vchilds says:

@Joey, How would she qualify for Medicaid? I thought income had to be below a certain level. I know with our state insurance you cannot own a home. One of my friends has state since she has 2 kids, so her and her kids are covered.

        • Joey says:

I agree it needs work, lets just do it right. It took Obama longer to pick out the family dog than it did to sign off on a bill that costs 945 billion.

      • Blurry says:

        Joey darling,

InJune & July of 2007 I was all over Europe. When I left, the exchange rate was about $1.35 per euro. When I came home near the end of July, it was about $1.40 per Euro.

Trip to Ireland in November, 2007. $1.50 to one euro. And there it pretty much stayed.

Today it is at $1.40 per euro. The dollar has been in trouble for some time.

This is interesting, because Europe is having some extremely serious economic problems right now, not that the US isn’t – this is sadly an illustration of “The USA sneezes, the rest of the world throws up”.

This is true, until the countries who purchase are debt financed securities decline to continue. China and India have started to grumble. If that were to happen, big doodoo!

As we speak,Moodys is thinking of dropping the AAA bond rating. Says are budget deficit and debt are the problem.

  5. Copa says:

    I don’t like her looks.

  6. Sydney says:

    I don’t know….if I were a man, I’d probably think the whole business seemed kinda shady….but I guess she’s gotta do what she’s gotta do….

  7. Denise says:

Just would like to note that one of my girls was very, very willing to enter into a marriage with me to help me with health insurance (MA = same-sex marriage .. holler!), but she’s quitting her job in 4 months; similarly, my roomie is trying to figure out if we can be domestic partners or something to get me on his plan. This shit is serial. I mildly live in fear that I’m going to break my leg and then be in debt forevs.

On the positive: I take better care of myself now – preventative stuff, being cautious – than I ever did when having health insurance. So there’s that.

  8. Erin says:

I wonder what on Earth her ex-husband thinks. No, his opinion doesn’t matter, but I am curious as to what he would think of divorcing his wife and suddenly seeing her do this.

  9. Snuffle says:

If you work you can’t get medicaid if your income rises above $300 a month unless you have a child. Single people have to just suck it up and go without healthcare altogether. And people wonder why so many poor people have babies? More babies=more $$$$.

  10. Carla says:

because you googled it that makes it true ???? you must be a newby to the internet

  11. Cindi says:

Depending on your income, there is Medicaid. Have you applied? I know that stinks as as answer too.

Health Care Reform is taking too long for people like you and myself and MANY others in our own country, the USA.

That is, if you really don’t want to get married to a stranger, (or maybe you do and that’s your right)

It just makes me sick to think you would have to go that far and our politicians and commissioners have access to this same info as I do in this country.
    Or
    they are just ignoring it.
This group of professionals are willing to work with them on a solution. Even give them a piece of the rock, the foundation for something that works.

So, I just want America to know, there ARE experts with some really good answers/options for reform out there, but instead
they are being attacked by the powers that be.

Made to produce more info with the threat of jail time. Yes this is really happening in Florida.

These are honest, dedicated caring, professionals being threatened, who I think need a patent for their idea, it seems.

Money is the root of all evil and part of why reform is taking so long.

SOMEONE needs to let people know that their is a group of people who care about people like us. Guess that’s me.

White House staff needs to pay attention to letters and e-mails sent from people with nothing but good intentions and re-notify our President of it’s existence. I wonder who is getting paid off to try and shut this up?

I don’t think Obama realizes Medicaid needs fixed first, then, this there is this other option that can be considered.

A grant or backing from states and govt would be nice, since it’s research about different health conditions, health care, and how to keep costs down and keep quality care.

I know, it’s all very confusing and just the fact you have to do this makes me wonder.

Our system, as it stands, is old school and those are the people in the way of changing things, from the looks of it.
They were the ones making the money hand over fist and don’t want a change. They lose money.

I have the info, but cannot share it because I am afraid of the attackers. Isn’t that awful?
I don’t even know who “them” is. And I thought we were a civilized country. Not what I am seeing and it is scary.

I can’t tell you who I am yet, but someday, hopefully soon.

What’s the world coming to. A young girl wants to ‘trade’ her virginity for college tuition money. This woman want to ‘trade’ herself for health insurance. Of course, I’m not sure if this is to actually find a husband or just bring publicity to the healthcare issue.

    • Rhonda says:

The world isn’t coming to anything. Women have married men for financial security throughout the ages. It still happens all the time. I know one couple who weren’t going to marry because they didn’t see the point but when she lost her job and found herself without health insurance they tied the knot. I had every intention of marrying my husband one day but probably would have waited a couple of years (we married the same week we graduated college) if it weren’t for immigration stuff. She might be a little more brazen than most but most women do look at a man’s financial security before agreeing to marry him.

  14. This is definitely one of the best posts I have located on this subject. I would like to know if you have you looked into the other side of the argument of natural health? Personally, I think a solid case could be made either way, but please let me know if you know of more articles or sources on the Web to verify what you are discussing.
