Sarah Palin Caught Red-Handed Using Cheat Sheets in Recent Speech
26 Comments | Posted by Sarah in President Barack Obama, Sarah Palin, politics

After making a public mockery of President Obama for using a teleprompter during his recent State of the Union address, Sarah Palin was caught red-handed using her own type of mental note: the age-old, high school brand known as hand scribbling.
Sarah, who is evidently a righty, was pictured at the recent Tea Party Convention held in Tennessee with arms wide open … exposing her scribbled cheat sheet. The topics of ‘energy’, ‘tax’, ‘lift American spirits’ and ‘budget’ are apparently scrawled on the palm of her left hand, as you can see in the above photo.
Although many Palin supporters claim that she speaks from the cuff, well, they’re wrong. It’s evident that she speaks from speeches that are memorized, like on the back of one’s hand. Literally.
Now … before y’all get angry with me for writing a slop-piece about Palin, hear me out: it’s not. I’m not saying that whatPalin did by writing talk-pieces on her hand was wrong. It’s not. In my opinion, it’s really and truly not that big a deal. However … my point is that even the President (and former Presidents) have admittedly used pre-written speeches and utilized the help of teleprompters. Whether or not it’s your favorite thing in the world, you have to admit: it’s as common as the cold. What my gripe about the entire situation is that Palin has publicly bashed Obama in the past for using teleprompters in the past and now she’s the one under fire for doing something similar.
Come on, now.

“It’s evident that she speaks from speeches that are memorized” Right, because having seven words written on your hand is the same thing as having a speech memorized. Have you ever done any kind of public presentation? I have. And though I hate just reading straight from written speeches (as many of my colleagues do), I often will have a piece of paper with the order of my talking points listed (because it’s really easy to forget everything you’re supposed to talk about when you’re up there in front of a bunch of people and your adrenaline is pumping like crazy). So my remarks about those topics are “off the cuff,” but the topics themselves and the order in which I address them are not. I really don’t understand why you think that what Sarah Palin is doing is the same thing that she has accused Obama of doing. For the record, though, I think that Obama is really smart for using teleprompters, because we all know what a disaster it can be for a president’s image if he misspeaks (::cough cough:: George W. ::cough cough::). Also, I think that Palin should have known better than to write it on her hand.
There’s nothing wrong with what Palin did, which is what the author is clearly saying. What is wrong, however, is the fact that one will condemn another for doing something similar than what they, themselves, have done.
My point is that writing a few words on your hand is not, in my opinion, similar enough to reading from a teleprompter to constitute hypocrisy.
Sorry, but I disagree. :) It’s all good!
Even stand up comics do that. I did public speaking competitons at school it was standard practice. Its not the whole speech written on her leg.
Dumbass should have used the bottoms of her shoes – like normal people :)
She still looks like a naughty Peggy Hill, and I still want to moose hunting with her. One pup tent, and two high powered rifles, nirvana!
What Palin did is nothing akin to having someone (goons) set up a big teleprompter and follow everry word by actually reading it. There is a big diference. Looks like the LIBERAL media was just looking for something to poke at Palin. I am a Democrat and I become very concerned that the media is so damn one-sided. It’s like you all think she is a danger to beat out a Democratic candidate, well— Maybe she will if the media pisses off enough people.
Get a grip, Doc.
GOONS? Really? Really?
I could not possibly care less if someone uses a teleprompter or has the whole speech written down on paper in front of them.
Honestly? If you’re the President of the most powerful country on earth and you have the time to study and memorize a long speech?
I’m a little concerned. There should be more important things occupying your time. This isn’t the high school debating team here.
I don’t really see what the big deal is. This in no way means that her speeches are written and memorized. They’re talking points written on her hand. Not “cheat sheets.” I’ve done this several times. 5 words do not equal a full speech.
She got onto Obama because he reads his speeches straight off the teleprompter (which, to me, is a little over the top, but honestly, who cares?), but this is not at all equivalent to memorizing a speech and reading it off a paper. She had three things she wanted to speak about, and she wrote them on her hand. Who cares? This is so blown out of proportion.
Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. I have no trouble with reading a speech off of a teleprompter, but having talking points written on your hand is not a speech.
I’m in agreement, ladies.
It’s a list of topics, how does that = memorized speech?
I’m pretty sure I don’t care if people have cheat sheets (or hands), teleprompters, or neither. Doesn’t strike me as a big deal.
I don’t care for Palin, but I don’t think this is that big of a deal. I write stuff on my hands all the time before I go in to teach a class–I call it my palm pilot, what’s the big deal? Of course the reference is all but lost on my 18-22 year old students.
Indeed :( I don’t know what that reference is lol
Palm Pilot was one of the early PDAs, came after Filofax and before smart phones. I had one back in college that smelled like banana after I accidentally put it in the same pocket as a banana then threw my back pack across the quad. Good times.
BTW, love the new profile pic!
Oohhh right I thought it was something like that. And thank you, although I still see the old one :( lol
Mireee,I saw your photos on another web site, lol.
I like to write stuff on my forehead,a reminder when I look in the mirror.
I don’t really like Palin, but I think you might be being a tad harsh on her in this respect. Having a talking points written on her hand is not really comparable to Obama reading off the teleprompter. I think her criticism against him was more an attempt to make him look disingenuous than anything, as though he is not capable of stepping outside his highly polished and planned image to simply say something real to his constituents. Whether or not you believe that is a matter of opinion, but I don’t think she meant to say she expected him to go into all of his speeches unplanned and completely unprepared. The idea that a politician would simply walk up to a podium without knowing what they intended to say or cover is a little ridiculous. Her criticism was based on the idea that all of Obama’s public appearances and statements are completely scripted. I don’t think you can say the same of Palin based on the words she had written on her hand. Not to say she couldn’t benefit a little from some more preparation, because she has made a fool out of herself in the past, but you can’t criticize her for using keywords as jumping off points in a speech. It’s a common technique and certainly doesn’t impose the same restrictions on her during a speech that a teleprompter would. I think people are just looking for a reason to jump on her in this instance. If you’re going to criticize Palin, please choose one of the many things that are actually legitimate issues, so she can’t start complaining about people unfairly targeting her.
I don’t particularly think these are in the same league, but the point still is that Palin continually harangues Obama for reading off a teleprompter during speeches – In either case I don’t really see the big deal? Would you rather a measured teleprompter speech rather than blathering?
And Obama didn’t need a teleprompter at the Republican convention last week.

I can’t really stand Palin OR Obama. Palin’s point (in my opinion) was that if Obama really knew the issues and was concerned about them, he shouldn’t have to resort to a teleprompter. So, by that logic, if she really knew the issues and was concerned about them, she shouldn’t have to write on her hands. I really don’t care about either things… I think that the non-moron public would agree that you can make a point more accurately with some kind of assistance.
Basically, memorizing is impressive, but they are both guilty of the same thing here… it’s just a matter of degree.
I agree,I’m not sold on either one. I do like Palin’s message on smaller federal government. Government has gotten to big and expensive.
