Betty White’s been receiving a lot more press these past few months than she probably has since her heyday portraying “Rose” on The Golden Girls — which, incidentally, I completely adored and watched with my grandmother all of the time. Still, on occasion, I’ll even TiVo it and watch it as late-night indulgence with brownie à la mode. Yum.
However, these days Betty White’s right back in the spotlight and is becoming a rather popular choice in current television appearances. Saturday Night Live is no exception. According to Michael Ausiello, writer over at Entertainment Weekly, SNL has decided to implement a “Women of Comedy” segment and they want it to include Tina Fey, Betty White, Molly Shannon and Amy Poehler. This, should we assume to go on, will be female comedic gold, you guys.
Betty White turned 88 years old this past January. However, similar to a fine wine, she’s only gotten better and better over the years. White starred on two cult-classic sitcoms which achieved some prominent notoriety for: The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Golden Girls. White won six Emmy nominations throughout her sixty-year-plus career and has been nominated for said awards almost twenty times over. Betty’s also been the winner of multiple American Comedy Awards and has been inducted into the Television Hall of Fame. She’s also made a vast amount of guest appearances in some well-known movies and television shows since her major stint on The Golden Girls ended.
I hope that SNL sinks their hooks into White’s agent. I hope they beg and plead with the man or woman in order for White to secure a guest slot on SNL and I hope it works. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’d be pretty damned satisfied if that were the case.

Golden Girls was fantastic – the caftans alone…
I heart Betty White. If you put her in a room on her own, with nothing but a microphone and a camera pointed at her I bet she’d come up with more comedy gold than five sitcoms put together.
I love Betty White. However, there are numerous grammar and spelling errors in this post. “White has one six Emmy nominations…” There are at least two errors in that sentence alone.
I used to always say I was going to grow up and be a Golden Girl. Love that show.
She deserves better than some patronizing, token “Woman of Comedy” segment. So do Fey, Poehler, and Shannon.
