Meghan McCain penned a blog post over on The Beast about society’s take on “big” and boob jobs, correlating the effects of the two conjoined.
She makes a valid point about women who have big breasts: women who naturally have larger boobs (I’ll use her example of Jessica Simpson) are considered “big” but women who surgically enhance their breasts are not. Why the double standard?
McCain goes on to continue that although Heidi Montag would be considered average-to-slender had she not undergone various plastic surgeries to beef her bod up, would she be considered “big” had she been born this way?
I think McCain makes some pretty valid points here regarding society’s perception on natural body image and augmented body image. Apparently, it’s okay to surgically enhance your figure to the point where you’d be considered “curvy” (for all of you out there who just love that word), but to be born that way is unacceptable — and you need an elliptical, like, yesterday.
I’m thinking McCain has such an adversity to this particular type of propaganda because she, herself, could be considered a curvaceous woman. Some might even consider her to be “big” or “fat”, so naturally it’s understandable that she feels this way. Personally, I think McCain and Simpson both have lovely, natural figures and would rather be “big” as they’re considered than to be stick-thin or to be twisted and poked and prodded and molded into something that I’m completely not.
Megan McCain for President, anyone? I love this woman. I’ve got a total fascination with anything Meghan McCain and for good reason: she’s smart, she’s independent and she doesn’t appear to give a crap about what anyone has to say about her OR her fab figure.

she’s fat? really?
According to a lot of people in the media and fashion, yes. Stupid, right? She’s GORGEOUS.
I really like Meghan McCain, too. I don’t particularly enjoy her father, but she is definitely a breath of fresh air. I LOVE that she supports gay marriage as a conservative. I LOVE that she is comfortable in her own skin.
It’s wonderful to see a smart young woman in the spotlight who uses that success in a responsible way.
I like her too. She isn’t locked in to the Republican (or Democrat, for that matter) mantra and feels comfortable having her own unique set of values.

I don’t care how big your breasts naturally are, this does not equate to “big” My sister is 5ft 6 in and she’s very thin (109lb) and has natural DD’s. Nobody thinks she looks heavy because she’s not. I think the “apple shaped” body types (like Meghans and Sheri Shepard) are what causes people to feel someone looks heavy. That’s because the upper arm area is often quite fat. In these people there is often a higher body fat percentage and guess what? That equals fat.
I think Meghan’s rant is more akin to the “I’m not fat- I’m big boned” idea of thinking- replacing bone with breast. If she loses weight, her tits will get smaller and then maybe she can have more awe-inspiring revelations to share with us- when she’s not busy palling around with Tila Tequila that is!
It’s not just her boobs, she has fat elsewhere. I’m not saying she’s fat, I think her body is pretty hot, but she does have fat deposits like just about every woman out there. She could lose some weight and her arms, face, and so on would slim down but so would her boobs.
Her boobs might be the same size as Heidi montag’s but her arms, waist, and so on are bigger. She’s not a big girl but she is bigger than a typical toothpick celeb.
I agree with this. I’m pretty sure Montag still wears a smaller size in everything else than McCain. Montag is skinny and McCain is not. That being said, I like McCain’s body better. And…

Ok, to all the people, who say “lose weight and your boobs will get smaller”; that doesn’t happen for everyone! I lost around 10kg (around 22 pound) and guess what, the boobs stayed the same. It’s still an F cup. It’s not getting smaller. I would LOVE if they got smaller by losing weight. But they don’t. My bra size just gets more annoying. Don’t know what the American sizes are like, but in the UK it’s 32 F. And that’s NOT easy to find.
I would love it if my boobs DIDN’T shrink when I lost weight. In fact, since I have such issues keeping a steady weight, I change bra sizes at least once a month. They seem to be the only part of me that DOES shrink (okay that’s a lie, I have FINALLY dropped one size) but everywhere else changes last.
Ok then, gain weight and your boobs will get bigger. Then lose that weight and your boobs will get back to their original but still huge selves. You were obviously not large enough for that 20lbs to matter. And perhaps you should do some push ups and other pec toning things… if all else fails, reduction surgery should be covered under any decent insurance. I’m sure you have a history of back pain, no?
Actually, no, not really. I used to be a life guard (yes, we had red swim suits – can you imagine the coments?!) so I did a lot of swimming and still try to go regularly and I also run 3 to 4 times a week and do push ups, so my back is actually quite strong (I almost never have back pains, I only have them around my period).
I just looked up a bra conversion site to get an idea of what a 32 F is. It is basically a US 32 F…or G!
I damn near swallowed a slice of clementine whole that I was in the middle of eating.

In all seriousness, Inesita – you do have my sympathy. I have never even seen an F or a G cup size bra, I can’t even imagine trying to find one in a 32!
Until a couple of years ago it was a nightmare. When I found my size it was extremely expansive (50€ – 70€ for one bra on a student budget…not so good). But now some chains here in DK have more sizes available and many more special offers, so it got much better. But I always buy the same bra, because it’s so difficult to find a good fit.

I’d donate too. I feel your pain Inesita. But there are some really nice looking european bra stores for big boobs that we just don’t seem to have over here. :(

Meghan has a classic endomorph body type. Her legs are not large but she appears pretty round on top. This contributes to make her breasts larger, not the other way around. Her arms are large and un-toned and she has a midsection which could be described as a “muffin top”. The picture you posted is a classic example of how to dress around that body type- a black (slimming) blouse with long sleeves and white pants to draw the eye down away from the problem areas to her slender legs. Do you EVER watch WHAT NOT TO WEAR? Geez…
I’d watch that show, but almost everything I see the hosts wear is friggin’ ugly. If I want help with my wardrobe I’m not asking people who look like a five year old dressed them.

I posted a picture that showed the rest of her body dressed in something that would accentuate large hips or thighs – if she had them. Which she does not appear to have, thereby supporting the premise of this blog.

You are a hypocrite to say I have reading comprehension issues! If you even read my post I said she was an endomorphic body type, an apple shape if that analogy works for you. I never said she had big legs or hips. My best friend is built this way, soft and round on top with little skinny legs. That doesn’t mean she couldn’t stand to lose about 20lbs!

Yes, she has big boobs, but her whole body carries a little extra fat. Smaller than the average obese american, but quite a bit larger than the average hollywood starlet – no matter the cup size. Why mess with the fat or not stuff? She looks good, and can ignore any other opinions.
That’s because celebrities who get boob jobs are always thinner & then just get big boobs put on.
Meghan, Jessica Simpson…etc. Have large boobs in some part because they are larger women. Their upper arms are much thicker and so are their hips and stomach.
They’re not necessarily ‘fat’ but they are not celebrity thin, boobs or no boobs.
Tila Tequila is still smal with her boob job because her waist,arms and legs are still tiny. New York on the other hand…she isn’t fat but she’s definitely not thin. pre or post boob job. It’s all about the rest of your body shape!
