For real, I guess.
This, which now comes as a shock after pro-golfer Tiger Woods withdraws from the PGA, but hadn’t been a shock to begin with after initial allegations of infidelity proved to be true, is a pretty sick twist in a pretty crazy story.
The spotlight shitshow began this past Thanksgiving. Tiger was involved in a minor traffic accident. Rumors swirl of drug use, intoxication. The mill grinds out another unbelievable round of rumors circulating about the “Golden Boy” regarding infidelity and sexual compulsion.
While the world thought it couldn’t be true, every single sordid detail that had been exposed was found to be true. The media took a field day on the constantly-breaking news of the Tiger Woods affair.
In an even more dramatic move, Woods then withdraws “indefinitely” from the PGA, citing the need to focus more of his stellar attentions on being a better father, husband, person. Fairytale stories began to emerge from different camps about the pair and their children whisking away to a remote island in Sweden to heal their family. It was almost becoming a story of touching-but-not-so-touching caliber.
Then Ms. Elin-Fantastic-Nordegren drops a bomb, y’all.
Sources close to the couple state that Nordegren has filed for divorce. Elin claims the marriage is over and wants to give it the go-ahead for legal proceedings.
I am rocked. Honestly. I never could or would stand for a cheater — it’s not in me to forget. It’s happened before and something snapped, something changed and neither I, nor the relationship, would be the same again. Being subjected to such a public spectacle in such a prestigious level has got to be amazingly trying. Especially with reconciliation begging at your back door; how hard must it be?
I was totally behind Elin right from the get-go and hoped to God that she’d dump this hunk of junk that swings a golf club okay to the curb and now it’s allegedly true that she is.
I am so happy for her and so proud that she could take this gigantic step for both her own peace of mind and self-respect. I’m so happy that she’s showing this bastard that no one’s going to fuck with her, end of story.
Why am I so happy for someone I don’t even know and who will never even impact my personal life, you ask? It’s not because she’s female and all empowered and that; it’s because it’s human decency and a huge load of karma coming back to have the last word.

“why am I so happy for someone I don’t even know”, I know what you mean. I also am pleased to hear that Elin can’t be bought to stay in this marriage.
I’m all for everyone to their own but this is a case where I feel very strongly that she is doing the correct thing in divorcing him. It would have been one thing if Tiger had an affair, but the multiple affairs and with all of his conversations coming to light is a little too much for me.
I can’t imagine how Elin must feel with Tiger telling his ho’s that “he only married for his public image.”
I’m glad to see an athlete’s wife actually have some shred of dignity and self-respect. She’s doing exactly what should be done and isn’t allowing herself to be bought off… you know, like Kobe’s wife.

I’m all for working things through and forgiveness when it comes to an affair but only to a point. When someone is behaving like Tiger I don’t think there’s anyway to work through that. I don’t think there’s any chance that he’s going to stop sleeping around and turn in to a respectable husband at this point.
Rhonda! I really was hoping that you left a comment. I haven’t been to this site in many months and decided to drop in this morning. When I read this post, I wondered if I would remember any of the commentators, and especially if you would comment. I remember you really believing in marriage and working things out.
Anywhooo…glad to see you can agree some things just can’t be worked out or forgiven. I think Tiger is a skank (men can be skanks too, right?). How can his wife ever sleep with him again? I would be afraid of STDs.
I know, I would be very surprised if he wasn’t carrying at least a couple of nasty little STDs now.
If it was one woman they could work past it. Even if it were a collection of one night stands they could maybe work through it with a lot of therapy and a very short leash for Tiger. As I understand it though he had multiple relationships on the go at one time and that’s a massive breach of trust and a boatload of lies. He also spent a lot of cash on hotels and gifts and so on, money that should have been going to his family, so that’s a whole other issue too.
Well he was screwing porn stars with no condom, so yes, I bet she ran out and got an AIDS test. Who knows what crawly things he brought home. ew.
Heh. I’m not saying it’s OK to go bareback with anyone, but he’s probably safer (relatively) going condom-free with a porn star than with anyone else! Most of them have to go through frequent and rigorous STI testing to keep their jobs. ;) Just sayin’.

GOOD FOR HER!!!! I am so proud, too. I have been hearing from so many people that “she should stay with him for the kids, blah, blah, blah.” I think that’s total CRAP! What would it show their children to see a disrespected mother keep her mouth shut and take it? It would do more harm for the kids to see their parents have a completely horrid relationship from here on out than having to deal with the strains of a divorce.
WAY TO GO, ELIN. Thank you for being a strong, independent, no bullshit woman that can’t be bought. I wish I could shake her hand or hug her or something. What a wonderful example to so many women out there who think they can’t leave their cheating, lying, disrespecting husbands and/or boyfriends. Thank you for demonstrating that LOVE and RESPECT are the key aspects of a happy, strong marriage, not MONEY. WOOOOOOO!!!

I am SO happy for her, especially because she is the first publicly-cheated-on wife of some incredibly famous jerkoff to actually dump her husband (Spitzer, Clinton, etc anyone?) instead of stay around like a cowed pathetic wife-slave (Hillary Clinton excluded).
Especially since Tiger did just about everything to shit on their relationship that he could.
Seriously! I felt personally proud on behalf of my whole gender when I heard that their prenup specified either less or nothing for her (I forget) if she breaks it off before making it five years. And she chose self-respect! Oh, frabjous day!
