Aww, Shucks, And You Thought It Was Nothing But Hate In H-Wood: Celebrity Same-Sex Crushes

56536While I’ve previously blogged my girl-crush as Rachel McAdams (and the newly-rising Kristen Stewart), it appears that there are more girl-on-girl crushes among Hollywood’s leading women than you can actually shake a stick at.

While we seem to live in a world where women allegedly resent other women for being beautiful, all the while trying to cover it up with fake smiles and backbiting attempts at humor, all is not what it outwardly appears to be (as nothing truly is), even in the skewed perception of Hollywood’s sometimes-off-kilter celebrities.

For example, Anna Lynne McCord (starlet of the 90210 reboot) states that her girl crush is, incidentally, Rumer Willis.  While Rumer seems to catch a lot of flack in Hollywood, it’s great to see that people can see beyond the stereotype of beauty and can see loveliness in the “unconventional.”  Even the outlandishly-gorgeous Lady Gaga (yes, I think she’s quite pretty) states that she’s been obsessed with Britney Spears’ look from the get-go.  Katy Perry, the Hello Kitty queen feels that Miley Cyrus is a beautiful woman.  Megan Fox, who was always rumored to feel that her looks were far superior to any other female, adores Sasha’s own lady love, Olivia Wilde.  Even the outlandish Tila Tequila has (surprise) a girl crush of her own: Christina Ricci.

Although it’s in a much more superficial sense than can be wished for, it’s still pretty refreshing to hear that some female celebrities (whom you’d think that their opinions of their own looks are at their pinnacle;  they feel above and beyond it all) do admire other women’s appearances, rather than resenting them outwardly because they feel inferior.

The discussion has been opened.  Who is your same-sex crush?

  1. Actually, in the linked article, Anna Lynne McCord states that she has a crush on Rumer Wills’s MOM.

I find the way this is addressed (not you, the article) is kinda silly. I can recognise the beauty in many women. I’m not attracted to any of them. Crush? I don’t think so.

    • I agree: recognising beauty/intelligence/talent is NOT a crush. The term “crush” is over-used and it is quickly losing its meaning. Pretend lesbianism is super-commercial and a guaranteed publicity grabber. In non-celebrity life also, “crushes” are common. It makes me sad when I see my real lesbian/bisexual friends misled and then rejected by straight pretenders who just admired them as people.

  2. I think the whole point of the post was to indicate that there are (unbelievably enough) women in the world who are secure enough in their own looks to admire looks of another woman. You know, kind of contrary to those women who sit and piss and moan that their boyfriends look at other chicks? It’s so unnattractive when men (or women) voice their opinions on anothers’ looks and their significant other gets all huffy and stereotypically “girly stupid” because their significant other thinks there’s beauty elsewhere other than what’s in front of their face 24/7. Because there really is nothing less attractive than being unrealistic and catty to boot.

  3. Michelle Williams – as in Heath Ledgers ex.

To the people who complain about people using the term “girl crush”. How do you know that everybody who uses the term wouldn’t really go for their girl crushes if they’d meet them somewhere?

I am annoyed by college girls (or high school girls or anybody really) making out in clubs to get attention as much as the next person but if you are really attracted to somebody – even if you don’t call yourself a lesbian – who is to say that’s not real?

I am just as attracted to Michelle Williams as I am attracted to Paul Rudd. It’s just as real or as much of a fantasy and who are you to judge that?

    • I think the term is fine when that’s really what you mean. But when you’re just saying that someone’s beautiful, then it’s silly.
So if you are attracted to Michelle Williams, then ‘crush’ is acceptable. (Though the term sounds so seventh-grad that I could never use it.)
I don’t feel attracted to any women though, so to recognise the beauty of another woman, I would simple state that Michelle Williams is gorgeous, or whatever.

Possibly, every girl who uses the term ‘crush’ really would go for them. But I really don’t think that is the case.

      • Vocalist for the italian band Lacuna Coil. If you’ve never heard them, I’d highly recommend you check them out. Her voice is amazing, and their lyrics are truly beautiful, a lot of which she writes. She’s also one of the nicest people I’ve ever met…

Truly someone to crush over. :)

  4. Brad Pitt, not only is he attractive (although he seriously needs to lose the beard he’s been sporting lately), but every time he opens his mouth I like him more (unlike most celebrities, who make me stupider every time they speak).
