Fox News ran a delightful bit recently about a stripper attacked by a fellow stripper at a strip club in Ohio. The attack weapon was a shoe — Fox News calls it a stiletto, but Fox News, per usual, is wrong. That’s not a stiletto. It’s just a heel. That girl would have been hurt way worse if it were a stiletto.
But this made me think about a conversation we had recently at Film.com, where I work during the day. We wanted to run a photo gallery of the best stripping scenes in movies (we’re all class, all the time), but there was a big brouhaha over whether or not “stripper” was a politically correct term. I said that it was. I mean, what else are you going to call a stripper? An “exotic dancer”? When you ask a girl what she does for a living and she says she’s a dancer, under most circumstances you’re not going to ask her if she means ballet or tap. You know what she’s talking about. I think we add shame to a career that shouldn’t be shameful by making “stripper” a “bad word.”
In the end, I was out-voted, and we called it a gallery of “erotic dance scenes.”

Strippers is correct. They strip off their clothes. Saying “Exotic dancer” is just a nicer sounding word than stripper, which they are.
I don’t think it really matters cos people will continue to call them strippers.
(like in new zealand aparantly north island and south island aren’t regisitered as the official names for the 2 parts of new zealand so they like ooh what should we call them…. well it doesn’t really matter cos people will continue to call it north and south island)
I think my favorite part of the video is that Fox News led into this story with a piece about the Slumdog girl trying to be sold by her family. Nice awkward transition there Fox News!

I think stripper is fine.. I call them worse, so stripper sounds pretty decent to me.
